Jon spun his training sword in his hand to get a feel of its weight once again. Jaimie in the response, cut few times through the air, studying the range of the sword, and when he was done, he smiled towards Jon.
"Are you sure you want do this Your Grace? Queen is watching, and I'm sure that neither of us wants to be the losing side" he said, earning a laugh from Jon.
"Get on with it, we don't have the entire day. And I should warn you, I'm not going easy on you" Jon said and assumed his fighting stance, with his right hand in front of him, right foot in front and the left, slightly tilted in the back.
"As you wish then" Jaimie responded, letting out a deep breath, and assuming his own position.
The men started circling each other, carefully following each other's movements, waiting for a moment to strikeDaenerys was watching their duel from the balcony that was overlooking the courtyard of Winterfell. She knew that his was only a friendly spar, a part of training, yet she still felt unsettled, maybe even worried about him. To say the truth, she'd only seen Jon fight a couple of times, once behind the wall and then during the Long Night, but everyone else said that Jon was one of the best, if not the best swordsman in Westeros, even if he didn't agree on that.
"They are certainly stubborn, can't say no to that" Arya said, suddenly appearing behind Daenerys, making her jump.
"You scared me" Dany said, to which Arya only smiled, and stood next to Daenerys.
"Wonder how much time it will take for them to start the thing already" Daenerys said, with bored expression on her face. Arya sighed, and pointed towards the Jaimie.
"Fighting duels like that is much more complicated than full-on battle. Look at them and tell me what you see" Arya said and shifted her gaze towards Daenerys, who took her time to answer.
"Well, they are going in circles for quite some time now, I don't think I can tell you anything more" Dany said, kind off embarased that she lacked knowledge like that. The first time she had to fight herself was during the battle with the undead and before, there was always someone who did it for her.
"They are observing each other. Those two never fought against each other, yet you can almost feel the ammount of respect they have for each other. Look at Jon, his muscles are so stiff that I can almost feel it." Arya said, rolling her eyes what made Dany giggle a little
"Do you want to speed it up?" Arya asked Daenerys, to which she gave her a confused expression, "Give my brother one of those sweet smiles I hated you for since you came here. It will work wonders, I guarantee" Arya finished making Dany blush, yet Arya's face remained serious. Dany thought that it was worth a shot, so the next moment Jon was facing her she lifted her hand and waved it smoothly, giving him a single smile. Jon took his gaze of his enemy, and looked towards her, dumbfounded. Before he could react, Jaimie jumped towards him and threw a series of strikes, one after another pushing Jon into defensive instantly. Dany gasped and Arya burst out laughing, when she saw the angry expression Daenerys gave her.
"My brother really is an idiot. This guy, that almost lost his shit because a girl waved her hand towards him, wants to lead the army? God help us all." Arya said through the laughter and Dany could not help but laugh as well. She finally started to feel good in Winterfell, and she hoped that it will stay the way it is.Jon tried to parry each and every attack Jaimie threw on him when he noticed an opening and twisted his blade when they both collided next time. He pushed him away and spun his sword in his hand once again. Such a stupid mistake that rookie would make. He saw Jaimie smile at him when they both got separated again.
"Something got your attention my lord? Or maybe someone?" Jaimie said, like he was trying to angry Jon but he only chuckled.
"Aye, you could call it that. But that was the last time." He responded and jumped towards Jaimie, aiming for his right side that was much more vulnerable, because of the lack of his right hand. Jon knew that it wasn't the most honorable thing he could do, but Jaimie just moments ago used equally dirty trick on him, so he felt obligated to return the favor. Now he was in the lead, pushing Jaimie to defensive, throwing a jab after strike and a thrust after jab."You see?" Arya said, looking at her brother in awe. Daenerys knew exactly what she mean. Jon was moving with such grace and ellegancy, yet at the same time his attack were fierce and wild, reminding her of a wolf that tried to jump at his prey with everything he had, to finish the enemy quick.
"With honor of Ice, and fire in his soul, we look to the watcher, the man we call Snow." a voice said, and Sansa came to both of them holding her hands together, looking like a true lady. Daenerys looked towards her, her face asking for the meaning of these words
"Death is drawing in, and heroes are no more. So we look to the bastard, the man we call Snow." Arya finished and both sisters shared a look before Sansa giggled and Arya smiled.
"What was that?" Daenerys asked, still looking towards the Jon who was leading in the duel, almost guiding his enemy right onto his sword. Everything was done so perfectly, that it reminded her more of a dance than actual fight. She haven't seen that way of fighting anywhere else, and Jaimie was overwhelmed by it as well, from what she could see.
"A song that some girls were singing. I overheard it lately, and it's been growing on me, not gonna lie." Sansa answered Daenerys question, to which she nodded, and returned to watching the fight. People really love him, don't they? A man that returned the Winterfell to it's true people, the man who united the North, and gave them all purpose after the war of five kings. The man who managed to befriend an enemy, and gave them all hope of surviving the winter.
That was the man who was worthy of the Iron Throne, and at the same time, it was the man that she loved with all of her heart. If it wasn't destiny, then Daenerys did not know how she could call it.
"No wonder that he is so good with that sword. I'm not sure if I would be a match for him" Arya said, pulling Dany out of her thoughts. "He is mixing all of the styles he'd experienced. He is a natural born fighter, there aren't many people who could do such a thing" Arya added, and looked towards both girls who were waiting for further explanation. Arya rolled her eyes and pointed towards the black-haired man
" Everyone in Westeros fights differently. There are many schools, and many teachers yet Jon instead of sticking to one of them, is mixing them all together, pulling out the best of them. You see, people in the south fight different than people in the north, or beyond the wall, or in Essos for that manner. And Jon is using all of those styles, so his enemy is not able to predict any of his movement." Arya explained, and Dany started to understand. So that's why some of the movements were familiar to her. Some of his moves were close to Dothraki fighter, yet a bit more sluggish."What's wrong Ser Jaimie? Getting tired already?" Jon joked, and Jaimie smirked. before jumping towards Jon again, aiming for his left side. Jon dodged the attack with ease, but the moment the blade passed him, he felt his stomach being turned upside down, and heard a gasp that came no doubt from Daenerys. Jaimie hit him with his golden hand, making Jon lose his breath and move backside quickly.
"That wasn't very kind of you" Jon said trying to catch his breath, but he wa still smiling towards his enemy.
"Kind people don't live long, especially when fighting an enemy like you" he responded to which Jon gave him a little bow, a sign of accepting the compliment. When he finally managed to catch his breath, Jaimie was already rushing towards him, trying to use the advantage he made for himself but this time, Jon was quicker, he evaded the thrust Jaimie made, catching his arm under his own arm and closed the sword to his neck
"It seems I won, my lord" Jon said, and Jaimie yielded, clearly being out of breath. They heard clapping from the balcony, and when they both turned around, they bowed, like they were actors that were about to walk off the stage.
"From what I can see, none of us really came out as the worse, or am I wrong?" Jon said and reached out his hand towards Jaimie.
"Aye, it seems you're right" Jaimie said, and grabbed his hand in a firm handshake. Handshake between a Wolf and a Lion. Something that was not a common sight.A/m
