After our kiss, we sat in front of the fire, holding each other close. I marveled at the feelings that I now acknowledged. It was as if someone had placed a small light, just a glowing ember really, inside my heart and let it grow brighter and brighter. I was still an exhausted mess, but now I had someone I could lean on, someone I could trust beyond anyone else.
"Gondien?"
"Hm?" He sounded absolutely content. He had been running his fingers gently over my brow as I laid cradled against his chest.
"I need to talk to you about something."
"Alright," he murmured sleepily.
"It's important."
He opened his eyes and straightened up, concern playing on his face. "What's wrong?"
I nervously played with my fingers as I contemplated how to start. "I have been having strange dreams. For a while now..."
He nodded encouragingly. "I'm always falling. It's very dark, and as I'm falling I hit things that seem to be flying around me. It feels like metal. I'm always cut up and bruised, screaming for help. I can see the end, the ground rushing up to me, but before I hit it I always wake up. What does it mean?"
"How long have you been having this dream?" He asked gravely.
"Several weeks." I dropped my gaze.
"I see," he answered. "Have you told anyone else?"
I shook my head, not wanting to let him see my tears, but he lifted my head up and wiped them away and placed a lingering kiss to my forehead.
"It is not healthy to hold this in, my sweet. You should have told me and or someone else sooner."
"I know," I sniffed. "Do you think it has anything to do with how I came here?" I asked. "I still have no memory of those last moments on Earth. I dont how I came to be here!"
He shushed my anxious words as he soothingly rubbed my head. "Perhaps this is something you should discuss with Elerond," he said. "He is far more wise than I, and perhaps he might shed some light on this."
I nodded in understanding, feeling some relief in that I was no longer alone in this burden.
"I think it is now time for you to go to bed. It has been an eventful evening and you were already tired."
"But I don't want to go to bed," I whispered with a playful smile.
"Then I shall have to find some incentive for you." He smiled back and helped me up. We walked back to my room in silence and stopped in the doorway, both reluctant to leave one another.
"Have I told you how beautiful you look tonight?" He ask and leaned an arm against the door jam above me. I smiled shyly and shook my head.
We shared another sweet kiss before we both separated to our own rooms with smiles on our faces.
The next morning we met with Elrond, and I shared everything with him. He was of the same mind as I, that it had to do something with the way I came here. He asked that I give him some time to think on it, which I was more than glad to do.
Life for the next few weeks was the same as they had been. Except now, Gondien and I were spending more time together than before. Our relationship was growing stronger, and I could honestly say I was falling deeply in love with him. He was still the ever strict captain to everyone else, but with me he would smile more and seemed to flourish off showing me affection.
Winter started to melt away, and with it my depression lifted. Elrond was still no closer to interpreting my dream, but it had ebbed in my happiness. Instead, in its place I would often wake with a smile on my face. I would only remember small snippets of a child's laughter and the feeling of being extremely happy.
