"Stupid, stupid, stupid!"
Of all things I imagined myself doing with my first kiss, running away was not one of them. How many times had I dreamed of that beautiful cliche moment when I would finally kiss the man I wanted to marry and spend my life with, the man I would save so many firsts for? Instead of a beautiful moment, that kiss turned into a complete disaster. Of all people, it would have to be him. Him!
I groaned in frustration and sank onto my bed. My face still burned, and I was definitely NOT still feeling a bit of a tingle in my lips!
"Esther?" Arwen's voice came from my door followed by a soft knock. "Are you awake?"
Jumping up in a panic, I searched desperately for a robe while trying to shed the dress I was wearing. "Ow! Oh crap!" I tripped over the cord to my robe, lost my balance, and careened straight into the side of my vanity.
"Ooh, crap!""Esther?" My door opened, and Arwen took one look before she gasped and rushed over. "Oh, Elbereth! Are you alright?"
"Yeah, just a bit banged up," I winced and sat up. Everything from my vanity was all over the floor, and I was sprawled half on the floor and half on the edge of the furniture.
"What happened?" she asked and helped me off the floor.
"I slipped on the belt," I sneered at the offending item and slung it carelessly onto the bed.
Arwen laughed softly. "Here, let's clean this mess and then go to breakfast." She began to pick up my things spread across the floor, while I cast quick glances towards her.
"You're up early, sister," she said.
Shrugging, I placed my things back on the vanity meticulously then turned to the doorway. "Ready for breakfast?" Hurrying out the door, I did not allow her to answer, but I stead rushed down the hall.
Arwen quickly caught up and wrapped an arm through mine. "Ada and Nana decided to have breakfast in the garden this morning. It's one of the few fair mornings left."
"In the garden? Maybe I should get something warmer to put on," I turned to walk back to my room.
"It is warming quickly, Esther," Arwen said. "Besides, I'm sure our brothers will be wearing their cloaks. You could borrow one of theirs during the meal if you get a chill."
"Ok," I said unsurely. "Would they mind?" She gave me a confused look. "I mean, would it bother them?"
"No, they would lend you a cloak or anything else if you asked, Esther." She grabbed my hand in hers as we walked. "You are our sister now."
She smiled warmly, and my heart lightened at the feeling of a familial love.

We sat down to breakfast in a sunny area of the colorful garden. They had lain out a wooly blanket on the prickly grass and pillows were strewn about for us to lean on. Even though there was a slight chill in the air, the sun warmed me through to my bones and left me feeling light and happy. I had pushed that morning's event to the back of my mind and was determined to forget about it. But I could not get rid of the tingling on my lips. They were almost burning from the memory. I would be lying to myself if I said that I had not enjoyed it. In fact, I felt almost giddy as I laughed with the others through breakfast.
"We were planning to have a horse race this afternoon," Elladan said.
"Oh? Against whom?" asked Celebrian.
The twins looked at each other and answered,"Each other, of course, Nana."
I snickered into my cup as I caught a slight roll of Elrond's eyes across from me.
