Song: Maybe Another Time // Feng Suave
———————————
I felt like I had no control over my life anymore.
Instead, the will had taken over my life, controlling what I did, why I did it, and how I did it. You have to become the CEO of Amity Industry, you have to look after your thirteen-year-old sister, you have to forget about your violin for the time being.
I could do everything except what I wanted to do. And as I sat in the dark office, staring at the blinds that covered the glass wall that overlooked the entire city, I felt like I had no control over the things that I had to control.
I was still learning the ropes on how to manage an entire company, and honestly, this entire company would've plummeted to the ground had I not had Lillian and the company's advisors' support. They understood how hard taking over the company was for me, and they'd really helped me during meetings and such.
But I knew that I wouldn't be able to depend on them for any longer, I also had to put in more effort, even if I really didn't want to.
Then there was Amber. I didn't understand how hard his death had impacted her until I noticed that she didn't seem to be returning to her normal self. Her clothes were still dark, her hair was always a mess, and she rarely left my dad's study.
Sometimes I found her asleep on the floor of his office.
I decided that I had to help her in some way, maybe talk to her over lunch or something.
Standing up from my desk, I left the room, informing Lillian that I was going to be out of the office for the rest of day after making sure I didn't have any important meetings I had to attend.
As I drove towards her school, I thought about what her reaction to me asking her to have lunch was going to be. Amber was rarely expressive anymore, and I was starting to grow worried.
I parked in the drop-off zone and scanned the area looking for my younger sister. My eyes automatically darted to the benches, where I last saw her sitting with the boy, flirting with him, but she wasn't there.
I then looked over at the main entrance for the school and found a bunch of girls dressed in bright dresses or skirts chatting and laughing, and in the center of them was Amber, clutching her backpack. She stood out like a sore thumb, her outfit consisted of black Nike joggers and a black tank top. She was the only one of them starring ahead, not laughing at whatever they were talking about.
I let out a sigh. She looked fucking miserable.
She noticed my car creeping forward, left the group of girls without as much as a goodbye and walked towards my car. Once she had her seatbelt fastened, she connected her iPhone to my car and started playing her music.
"Hey, sis," I said lightly, pulling out of the school, making my way home.
"Hi," She mumbled and started humming quietly to the chill song playing out of my car's speakers.
At that point, I knew that she barely wanted to speak, so it was up to me to try and keep the conversation going.
"So," I dragged out taking out my phone from my pocket and handing it to her. "I was thinking we could have lunch together today."
She took my phone and stared at it, "Okay?"
"Yeah, and I thought that you could choose the restaurant that we would eat from and order the food?" I looked at her and smiled lightly. "You can order whatever for me, I'll eat anything."
