AMBER

Of course, the one time I choose to study for my exams, I couldn't. Starting a family was evidently more important than me passing my winter finals. I've migrated from my room to the library, where Antoine's cries didn't seem to quiet down.

The entire house shook with his screams.

The three-month-old child would not shut up. I loved the kid, I really did, and I especially loved that Dylan had named him after our father, but sometimes I just wanted him to shut up.

Sure, maybe Dylan thought that I didn't care much about my grades, but I did. If I didn't get straight A's, I'd be fucking livid.

Pressing my palms against my ears, I angled my neck downwards and started reading through my biology textbook. I read the paragraph a good three times before I decided I've had enough. Slamming the book shut, I got up and left through the library's large double doors.

I winced as his wails grew louder as I walked towards his nursery. I could hear Rose and Dylan going insane as they tried to figure out what was wrong with their child. I stood at the doorway and took in the chaos that laid before me.

Rose held the baby in her arms and swayed him as she tried hushing him. The poor woman had bags under her eyes and vomit on her shirt– she looked ready to burst into tears herself. Dylan, on the other hand, was bustling around the room looking for something.

"Rose, are you sure it's here?" Dylan whined as he opened a drawer and ruffled through it.

"Yes, Dylan," She hissed as she made popping noises to try and quiet down her child. "It's a blanket, it's not going to be anywhere other than here."

Antoine's blanket was a baby blue square piece of fabric that he clung onto for dear life. He loved it to pieces and was always the key to stopping his cries. The kid refused to go to sleep without it, and I'm guessing the new parents lost it.

"Dylan," I whined. "My biology exam is tomorrow, can I please go to Dean's to study?"

"No," He snapped, shooting me a glare before opening another drawer to rummage through it. "Maybe if you studied for the exam earlier, you wouldn't be facing this problem."

"Well, I am!" I replied snarkily. The cries were starting to give me a headache, and I wondered how Rose hasn't gone deaf with her child's wails. "It's just for the night, I'll be back by curfew."

"Dean, just let the poor girl go, I don't want her failing her exam," She said softly, swaying Antoine, desperation evident in her eyes.

"I said no. She might 'accidentally' fall asleep at his place again," He responded, referring to the day I went over to his place and fell asleep on his lap while he played some videogame. I just wanted to spend time with my boyfriend, and it was a nice day, but Dylan went ballistic when Dean picked up his calls and told him I fell asleep.

I knew he wouldn't back down and with a frustrated groan, I stomped over to Rose and gently pried the baby out of her hands. I looked down at Antoine and animatedly widened my eyes while puffing up my cheeks. His cries grew quieter as I brushed my hair over his face and blew raspberries. He reached out a hand and grasped my hair in a fist, before tugging on it. I hissed in pain, but if it meant he wasn't crying anymore, I didn't care.
