School let out, but I stand out front waiting for Scott and Stiles. I take this minute to call my brother really fast.
A woman answers the diner's phone, and I ask for Louie. I waited on hold until I heard him on the other end.
"Hello?"
"Hey, Louie, it's me Kasey. Listen, I'm going to hang out with some friends after school. I don't know what time I'll be home," I let him know, clutching the phone to my ear. I watched my feet, kicking loose pebbles on the concrete. I can feel the presence of the two boys coming towards me.
"Really?" Louie sounded surprised. "I mean, yeah that's fine it's Friday anyway. Is it the friends you were talking to when I brought your lunch?"
"Yeah, Scott and Stiles," I remind him.
"Okay, well be safe. Love you."
"Okay, love you too, bye," I tell him and hang up my phone.
I follow the two boys to Stiles's jeep. Scott hopes in the back, leaving the passenger seat to me.
"So where are we going again?" I ask as Stiles pulls out of the school parking lot.
"We're going to go talk to Derek. He's the one to go to with new wolves. Him and I also have to have a little chat with his uncle Peter too," Scott tells me. I nod, and keep my mouth shut after that.
We arrive at an apartment complex in the part of town where no one really passed through. I glance back at Scott to make sure I don't shut the car door on him, and then back at the building. I follow the two boys into the building, up to one of the higher floors, and down a long hallway, that lead to the door of this particular loft.
The door opens right before we reach it, revealing a guy that I've never seen before. He was on the muscular side, had dark hair and icy green eyes. His facial expression grew cold when he noticed me. I could tell he was like Scott and me. He smelled like we did.
"Derek, this is Kasey. Where's Peter?" Scott asks as the guy lets us in.
"He's here. He's coming down right now and we'll find out if this is his little creation."
Did he mean me?
I follow quietly behind Stiles, shrinking down and hoping I'd turn invisible. That'd be a convenient ability.
"I smell and hear her but I don't see her," a different voice chimed in, footsteps padding on the stairs.
Stiles steps aside to reveal me. This older man gave me a grin that nearly sent shivers down my spine. His idea of a welcoming face made me want to turn around right now and run.
"Everybody, welcome my newest pack member!" He announced, but nobody was amused.
"So you made her crash her car, bit her, and forgot about her for a few days? That's a brilliant plan, really," Stiles points out sarcastically.
"I had a feeling she's a smart one. I knew she'd figure it out, and one way or another, she'd end up here. All thanks to you two," he gestures to Scott and Stiles.
He walks closer to me. I wanted to shrink again, the man made me want to cower. Instead, I think of Louie and his wise words about fear and standing your ground.
Instead of trying to hide or give in to my shyness, I stand up straight, and clench my jaw.
"We haven't had a proper introduction," he begins, completely focused on me. "I'm Peter Hale, and you are apart of my pack now."
"No thanks," I say boldly, but it unsuccessfully ends in a squeak. Peter gave me a puzzled look.
"I don't want to be apart of your pack," I shake my head, feeling pressure to explain myself. "I just... you picked the wrong person to bite."
