(Unedited)
The rest of the day goes by pretty quickly and soon it was the last class of the school day. But Arabella was completely distracted.
For some reason, she could not seem to focus on anything the teacher was saying. All she could think about was the palace. And while she had been happy to make some new friends, she couldn't help but miss her mother.
Arabella wakes up when she hears someone calling out to her.
It's Spencer. He's looking at her curiously and saying something that she can't quite seem to understand.
"Sorry, I didn't catch that, what did you say?" Arabella whispers.
"I said, pay attention sweet cheeks, or else you'll get into trouble." Spencer clarifies, returning his attention to the teacher.
Arabella does the same.
"Okay everyone, today you'll be assigned a group project." Mrs. Singh informs happily, a small smile playing on her lips. "And before you ask, no you cannot choose your partners, I'll be placing you into the groups"
"You'll be required to give an oral presentation using PowerPoint and this must be completed in one month. You can choose any topic that we've done so far for this semester. And this will be worth 10 percent of your final grade."
Mrs. Singh then grabbed the register book sitting on the table and began calling out the names of each student who would be paired together for the group project.
"Tyler and Mason"
"Corey and Zack"
"Alex and Elizabeth"
"Alexis and Blake"
"And finally- Madison and Spencer" Mrs. Singh calls out, closing the register book. "Now, for the rest of the period, I want you to get into your groups, and discuss what you'll be doing for the project."
Everyone then proceeded to get up from their seats, and each of them making their way over to their assigned partners. Arabella didn't have to move, since Spencer was already sitting beside her.
"Looks like we've been paired together, sweet cheeks" Spencer turns to Arabella with a smirk.
Arabella merely rolls her eyes at the pet name, before responding to the blonde.
"Okay, if we're going to be partners, you're going to have to promise to stop flirting with me," Arabella says, pointedly.
"I don't make promises I can't keep, babe" Spencer winked. His lips morphing into a cheeky smile as he did so.
Arabella chooses to ignore him and decides to change the topic "So, what should we do for our project." She asked, not missing a beat.
"We can do anything that you want to do" Spencer shrugged, leaning back into the chair.
"Well, I'm not up-to-date with this class as yet, so I think it would be best if you chose the topic"
"How about the effects of technology on mental health," Spencer replied. "I think we could get a lot of information on that."
"That sounds like an interesting topic." Arabella acknowledges with a nod "Okay, we'll go with that one."
"Great, so what day do you want to come over?"Spencer asked.
Arabella stares at him, tilting her head to the side in confusion, "Come over..for what?"
"To start the project, sweetheart." Spencer snorts. "Or would you rather I came over to your place instead."
"No!" Arabella responded quickly, and Spencer quirks an eyebrow up in response "Umm ..I mean, I'll have to ask my aunt first and then I'll let you know."
Spencer doesn't respond. Instead, he reaches into his pocket and pulls out his phone, tapping at the screen a few times before sliding it over to Arabella, "Can I get your number?"
"Why?"
"Well, if we're going to be working together, we'll need to be able to contact each other," Spencer says then.
Arabella hesitates for a moment, thinking about it. Should she give out her number to someone she'd only just met? While they weren't exactly strangers, she didn't know if she should call him a friend either. But, as Spencer had said, they would need to keep in contact if they were going to work on this assignment together.
After a bit more deliberation, she finally picks up the cellphone and enters her contact number into it.
Soon after, the bell rings, signaling the end of the school day. Mrs. Singh bids the students farewell and exits the room first. Arabella stands to her feet, getting ready to leave the classroom. But a strong arm latches onto her wrist, keeping her in place.
Arabella turns to look at Spencer, who's suddenly standing way too close in proximity, his breath slightly fanning her face
"I'll text you later, Princess" Is all he says, before leaving the classroom.
Arabella feels confused about two things at that moment. One: Her heartbeat had started beating really fast for some reason. And Two: Why did Spencer suddenly refer to her as Princess?
🌟*🌟
It's been half an hour since she got back home from school and Arabella thinks she's gone crazy. Why? Probably because she could not decide whether or not she should message Spencer back.
The latter had sent her a text message as soon as she got home, asking when she was free and wanted to come over to start the project. But Arabella had yet to respond.
Sure her Aunt had said it was okay but was it a good idea to go over to a guy's house all by herself and risk exposing her identity. Arabella didn't think so. And she was almost certain that her Mom would probably think the same.
On the other hand, her mother did say that she should socialize with other people. That was part of the reason why she had been sent to live with her Aunt in the first place. So maybe it won't be such a bad idea after all. Arabella thinks to herself.
She reaches for her phone, which had been sitting on the bedside table, and starts typing back a response.
To: Spencer
Hey,
How about tomorrow after school?
From: Spencer
Sure,
I'll see you, tomorrow Princess ;)
Arabella sighs while looking at her phone. It seems that Spencer wasn't about to let go of that new nickname he came up with in school today.
This is not good. Not good at all.
