Taking Up For His Peeps

"And your assignment will be due Saturday night," Mr. Gracie announced. "I'll see you Wednesday, my class."

Kuro stayed in his desk, looking around to realize that Tsuakasa was missing. Knowing him, he probably got expelled for yesterday's debacle, or he and his yes-men got arrested for robbing an old man.

The garnet-eyed kid walked out, after he packed his stuff.

He was thinking, Gotta see Adara in the hospital today, since class is over for me for the day. I wonder if she's doing ok? Knowing the doctors, they're probably still debating on whether to perform chemo, or let nature take its course.

"Ayumi said her favourite cookies are chocolate chip-and-cherry blossom," he said to himself as he approached Neko-Beekarii, a bakery that specializes in cat-shaped desserts.

He was nervous when he approached the desk, only to see a purple-haired girl with fake cat ears. "H-Hello...?"

The girl turned around...  It was Ayumi, Adara's friend. "Welcome to Neko-Beekarii," she grunted.

When she locked eyes with Kuro, her intimidating voice changed to a more friendly approach. "May I take your order? And how's Adara?"

"Going out to the hospital to see her. But I thought I'd stop here to get her a dozen chocolate chip-and-cherry blossom cookies."

She started putting the cookies in a box. "Sorry I was a little mean a minute ago. My manager won't let me visit Adara. He's a total fucking prick."

The manager, a morbidly obese, hairy man (with Japanese facial features), growled at Ayumi. "You ARE NOT visiting the Adara on my watch! I don't care if it was her funeral!"

Pissed, Kuro stood up to the owner that looked like he at McDonald's 5 times a day. "Look, 'manager.' Why do you do this to your worker. I bet she works harder than you ever will. Adara has cancer! Just because you didn't get your Happy Meal toy, that doesn't mean you run people off with your fucking petty disposition. Just because you're treating your employees like shit, after today, I won't step in this specific location!"

He turned to the mistreated, overworked associate of his. "You don't have to take his petty bullshit. If you wanna visit Adara with me, I'll be waiting outside."

He stepped outside in protest.

As Ayumi threw her fake cat ears down, she stepped outside. She protested, "I quit!"
