Adara was in her hospital bed. She has bruises from IV needles, and she hasn't touched her lunch, which is a baked fish fillet, peas and carrots, and rice. She was, instead, looking at ceiling. The only sound in the room was her pacemaker beeping.
What if I die before I express my feelings of love for Kuro? she thought to herself. Maybe I should tell him, in case we part... But what if he rejects me?
There was a soft tap on the door.
"Come in," she said in a soft voice.
When the door was open, Kuro and Ayumi, along with a different nurse, came in. The nurse (Ikinoka), who was a bit more compassionate that the last one, looked at Adara. "There are a couple people that'd like to see you." She left the three alone, but before that, she took her plate.
Kuro was very nervous, but he shrugged it off a bit. "H-Hey... we bought you some chocolate-chip-and-cherry-blossom neko-cremes. Ay-ay-ayumi said these are your favourite."
Ayumi cut in. "Kuro bought them." Then she shut up after that.
She left the two alone. "I'm going for ice cream. I haven't eaten anything all day."
Kuro pulled up a chair and sat next to Adara. "An-an-any word on the doctors doing surgery?"
"No... If they did do chemo, I might not make it... I'm reaching stage 3 cancer..."
Kuro broke down, tears streaming down his eyes. "Lemme tell you something: You aren't gonna die on me! There's still hope!"
The passion in his voice filled the room, quite possibly the entire hospital.
He took a step back and calmed down. "Look. I have something to tell you, but I didn't want to because you'd probably avoid me. I like you..."
She didn't know what to say.
He got up, disappointed. "Maybe I should just..."
She grabbed his hand, crying. "You really mean it...?"
"Yes."
The two hugged, while tears streamed down their eyes.
Nurse Ikinoka walked in. "Sorry to interrupt, but is everything alright?"
Adara replied to her in a courageous manner, "When can I get my surgery? I want to be able to in Kuro's life."
"Real soon, ma'am." She left to go talk to her coworkers about getting the chemo set up. Adara just might make it.
