*****One Month Later*****
MICHIKO
I sat at my desk tired and hungry. I worked through lunch just so I could spend the rest of the afternoon planning Reign's 5th birthday party. All the girls were staying at Papi and Joy's place so I was going to be in the office all night until I had everything finalized.
I stopped working to look at the envelope Papi gave me two weeks ago.
••••
"Guess who's back!" I heard from the front door"Papi!" Reign jumped up and ran "Nana!"
I laughed as I finished to platting Reign's spaghetti. Papi and Joy came into the kitchen with Reign in his arms.
"Hey guys!" I smiled "Reign eat then you can play with Nana and Papi. Y'all want some?"
"Of course" Joy laughed grabbing a plate "He had to come over as soon as we got off the plane so I'm starving"
"Awwwl we miss you too Papi" I kissed his cheek "Let's eat"
"Where's Nami and Kiko?"
"Nami took Akiko with her to spend the weekend at Giselle's place"
"Oooh weekend to yourself?" Joy joked
"You know I hate those"
"Come stay with us" Papi smiled "You haven't stayed over with baby girl in a while"
"Because she's usually working"
"Hey! I try to take breaks" I laughed "It's just hard"
We ate dinner laughing and joking as they convinced me to spend the weekend with them and Reign. When we were done I decided to go since Reign was so excited about it. Joy took her to pack her bag, while I went to pack mine.
As I grabbed some random lounge clothes, Papi walked in. He sat on my bed and watched me move around. I met Papi when I was sixteen. I had learned his behavior and knew this was a serious conversation coming. I stopped moving and sighed before looking at him.
"What's wrong?"
"Don't be mad"
"Papi" I whined "What is it"
"Rashaad wants to talk to you"
I froze hearing those words. I never thought I'd hear them uttered again a day in my life. The last person to even suggest us talking was his mother. My silence was shorted lived as I scoffed and chuckled shaking my head.
"For what"
"I'm not sure"
"Papi please. What is it?"
"I'm serious" he sighed "The last time we were down there... I did talk to him. But he was adamant he didn't want to go there. Before we left, we went ahead and had a conversation but it was in me letting him know you guys were a major part of me and Joy's life. You guys aren't going anywhere. I honestly felt like he was okay with it. He seemed to accept it"
"And that led to him wanting to talk"
"I'm not sure . After the wedding---"
"Papi I promise I don't want to know. I don't know what his problem is but I'm over dealing with Rashaad. He made it clear that he doesn't give a fuck about us. HE wants nothing to do with me or Reign. I cannot allow my daughter to experience his bullshit"
