She stared at her bloodstained hands as she backed away from his body.
"I'm sorry," she whispered, silent tears running down her cheeks, "I'm so sorry..."
"Nya?! What the heck happened?!"
She couldn't take her eyes off of the limp body laying on the floor in front of her. It was like some sort of scene you would see in a horror movie.
She felt a cold hand touch her shoulder briefly. She knew it was for reassurance but there was no possible way for her to feel reassured at this point. Not until she knew he was okay.
She watched as her brother rushed over to him, checking for some sort of pulse in his wrist. He placed two fingers on his veins and waited calmly. He glanced up at his sister with an apologetic look.
She slowly shook her head, more tears streaming down her pale face.
"I need to call an ambulance," He panicked. He quickly grabbed his phone and dialled the emergency number.
Nya felt her heart break. This was all her fault. It was her fault he was going to die.
She glanced back down at her hands, which was covered in his blood. She had tried her best to stop the bleeding before but nothing had worked. She wasn't a trained nurse. She had no idea how to treat this kind of situation. Plus, the panic that her boyfriend was bleeding to death right in front of her had simply ripped her mind into shreds.
"Hello? Yes, ambulance please. A 17-year-old boy was stabbed. Benny's Arcade Emporium, Ninjago City. Yep, thank you," Kai spoke down the phone. He gently placed a hand on the boy's pale cheek. Almost instantly, he removed it. Freezing cold, he thought.
Nya couldn't bare see the love of her life die. How would she cope without him? She would never forgive herself...
Kai stood up slowly, hearing the ambulance in the distance. He wandered up to his sister, who was still shaking from the terror. He stood directly in front of her, blocking her view of the bleeding body.
He gently stroked her tear-stained cheek. Her eyes met with his as he tried his hardest to remember them, because, after today, she would never be the same again...
The ambulance pulled up beside them and three paramedics jumped out of the vehicle. One of them quickly rushed over to the body, the other two grabbed equipment from the back of the ambulance.
The two watched anxiously, Nya still crying. Kai wrapped an arm around her, trying to at least calm her anxiety.
"What's this young boy's name?" The paramedic asked Kai.
"Jay," he responded quickly, "Jay Walker."
Nya was in more shock than anything else. She was the reason why this had happened. It was a real-life nightmare happening right in front of them.
"Jay? Can you hear me?" They spoke softly, "We're getting you onto a stretcher and taking you to the hospital, okay?"
She couldn't say anything. She didn't need to say anything. If she did, she'd only blurt out the truth anyway. No one could know the truth. Not even Nya could handle it.
The paramedics lifted him onto the stretcher and rolled it to the back of the ambulance. They closed the door, two paramedics at the back with Jay, the other drove the vehicle. They watched as the ambulance drove off, around the corner, and out of sight.
Nya glanced back down at her bloodstained hands. Her breathing was heavy and she was shaking like mad. Kai rubbed her back gently.
"Let's go back home, get changed, take a breather and head to the hospital, okay?" Kai spoke softly and calmly.
