She was determined not to say anything. She needed to tell the truth but was it right? Instead of thinking about how she would answer the questions, she was thinking of the state her boyfriend was currently in. It pained her to think of what had happened that day.
The only person that would help her was her brother but she couldn't even tell him the truth. At least she didn't think she could. After all, he was terrible at keeping secrets.
Sitting opposite a police officer who was more than capable of arresting anyone was also a big struggle. It made her feel sick.
"Okay, I'm gonna start with a simple question," The officer began.
Her heart was pounding. She couldn't say the right things and she couldn't say the wrong things. Whatever he asked could change her whole life forever.
Underneath the table, Kai quietly took Nya's hand for support. He also needed to know if she would lie at any point in time, not that he expected she would.
She made eye contact with no one but the table. She didn't look anywhere else. She was quiet and she was slumped down in her chair. Kai was sat upright, hoping she would speak.
"What were you and Jay doing in the city earlier today?" He asked.
Nya remained staring at the table. She knew she had to say something but she didn't know if she could. She desperately wanted to scream the truth but stopped herself every time her brain told her to.
Kai squeezed a little tighter on his sister's hand, catching her attention. She slowly looked at him.
When he looked into them, he was met with a small cold gaze. One he had never seen before...
Her life was nothing but a mess now. She wasn't coming back from this.
Kai gave her a small nod of reassurance. She remained calm, staring back down at the table. She opened her mouth shakily, her lips ripping apart. It was like they had been stuck in one position for years and years. She never had a reason to speak until now.
After a few moments, she coughed a little, trying to get her dry throat warmed up for what was about to pain her. It was like sharp knives were stabbing her in the back. The pain just wouldn't leave.
"Jay..." She began softly, "He... he had asked me on a d--"
She stopped and swallowed for a moment; a single tear trickled down her cheek.
"It's okay, take your time," The officer told her with a smile.
She glanced at him for a second before her eyes locked on a single spot on that damn table that was in front of her. She so very badly wanted to get up and throw it at the wall, watching it break into pieces, just like her heart. But she couldn't. She knew that she couldn't.
"He asked me on a date... yesterday evening. I agreed to it. I didn't know what he was... planning," She continued to speak quietly, being careful what she said.
Kai wasn't surprised that the two wanted to spend time together. The team had been so busy lately that they rarely got to see each other, not alone anyway. They deserved a romantic moment together. They also hadn't been on a proper date in years.
"And when did you head out for this date?" The officer asked.
Nya coughed a little again, thinking of what she would say before she spoke, "Around 10... 10:30 this morning. We went straight to the city..."
"Was there anything suspicious in the city? Did you notice during the day?" He questioned.
She thought for a moment, Kai gripping her hand tighter for support. She shook her head as tears began filling her eyes again.
