Rose stood next to Varian as he worked on the hot air balloon's thrusters he had built himself. "I chemically treated these thrusters so the flames will burn hotter and longer than any natural flame. You're gonna fly like the wind." He smiled proudly at his own invention, then frowned at Eugene as he reached to touch a bucket. "Don't touch that."
Rose watched Eugene through narrowed eyes as he tried to touch something else.
"Or that," Varian said. Then Eugene reached for the thrusters Varian was working on. "Oh my, don't touch that it's gonna blow!"
Eugene screamed and fell backward as Varian and Rose laughed. "Gotcha! Just messing with you."
"I knew that," Eugene said. "And you're on my list, bro."
"Guys, focus," Rapunzel told them. "Look at this." She turned to a map she had set up. "It took us weeks to get to the spire on foot, but thanks to Varian's speed balloon and this direct route, we'll make it in a day."
"Good job, buddy," Eugene told Varian as he stepped out of the balloon.
"Oh, wait, this takes you over Kresten Loch," Varian said, observing the map. Rapunzel didn't seem fazed by Varian's worried tone. "Uh, Kreston Loch? The frozen sea? Miles and miles of deadly wintery expanse?"
"That's the one," Rapunzel said with a smile.
"Well, if it were anyone other than you, I'd be worried. Woah." Varian fell to the ground, and Rose turned to see his boots stuck to the ground.
"Who glued my boots to the ground?" Varian asked, raising a foot.
"That's for your little balloon prank earlier," Eugene told him, holding onto the bucket of glue Varian had told him not to touch earlier. "Eugene Fitzherbert never forgets!" He waved his hand around; the brush was stuck to it.
Rose covered her mouth as she laughed at Varian.
"What d'you think is so funny?" Varian asked her, narrowing his eyes. Rose tried to suppress her laugh by pressing her lips together, but still a smile formed. Varian grabbed her wrist and pulled her down next to him.
"Woah!" Rose yelled as she fell. Together, she and Varian laughed.
Sorry for the super short chapter. To make up for it, I'm going to post TWO chapters today. Yay!
