Kayla's POV
The silence was simply too much to bear. Being alone in this huge house was driving me crazy and my concern for whatever was happening at the Steve's house wasn't helping.
I tried calling Jordan my older brother but the guy was simply too loaded with work. This only makes me terrified for school after high school. Jordan's so busy that he can't spend fifteen minutes on the phone if he doesn't start panicking about not finishing assignments or having to deal with his part time job. Med school's really got up the kid's ass.
So yeah that leaves me alone again.
I decided that maybe practicing for my CalArts audition in a few months wouldn't hurt. As soon as I touched the contortion canes, the doorbell rang.
"Ugh. This is so frustrating! Did this person really feel the need to ring the doorbell the minute I decided to consume my time with practice?!" I stomped to the door, annoyance running through my veins.
"What?" I snapped as I tossed the door open.
"Oh I didn't mean to bother you." I froze at the figure in front of me.
"Hey sir you can't be in here!" Bob the security guard jogged towards us while clutching his eye with one hand and clutching a short metal pole with the other hand.
"No Bob it's fine, I know him." I never took my eyes off the disheveled looking Aiden.
"But ma'am he punched me in the eye to get in here." Bob complained.
My eyes snapped from Aiden to a defeated looking middle aged Bob.
"You punched my security?!" My eyes widened.
"He uh- he wouldn't let me in." His voice cracked, alarming me. His voice never cracks. His voice was lacking it's usual confidence and goofiness. Now I don't know who looked more defeated, Bob or Aiden...
"Uh, come in." I shifted and widened the door so he could walk past me. "And Bob, don't tell my parents anyone way here, your job depends on it." I smiled sweetly, shutting the door before he could protest. Yeah there was no way I could unemploye Bob unless I told a really huge lie but he doesn't know that.
"What're you doing here?" I spun towards Aiden.
"Honestly, I don't know." His answer was short and quiet.
"Okay... How may I help you?" I asked.
"You can't. Are your parents home?" He never once looked at me.
"Um, they aren't home, why?"
"No reason."
Then I remembered Ashton making a comment about Aiden's dad but I didn't want to bring it up seeing as it seemed like a serious situation and he seemed really deflated right now.
Speaking of Ashton he never gave my phone back...
"I believe this is yours..." He pulled my phone out of his back pocket.
"Oh, thanks..." I took the phone in my palm.
We stood there awkwardly for a few moments before he spoke up. "I should go. I just came to drop off your phone."
He seemed a bit too fragile at the moment to be alone but then again I don't really know the guy, he could have someone to comfort him somewhere. Yet it just didn't feel right letting him leave.
"Hey do you wanna watch a movie?" I offered expectantly.
"No it's fine I don't want to bother your peace." He still never looked at me.
