*_~_* Chapter 5*_~_* Ceralyn's Point of View

My first practice with Mom and Laila turned out really good. I got the feel of the characters that I was trying out for, which was Baker's Wife, Cinderella, and Little Red Riding Hood. I preferred Little Red over the Wife, but hey, Wife was the bigger part. I needed the big part, so I concentrated on leads only, so that if I was good enough, I was guaranteed a big role- which was why I didn't try out for Rapunzel or Jack's Mother. Too small if I wanted to be thought of as the girl who out-shone Irilie.

Ugh.

I was going to have to PRACTICE. Big-time.

Laila's Point of View

"Girls, let's call it a very good day!" Ceralyn's mother trilled. She's a very nice lady, and so mom-like. Auburn hair- like Ceralyn- hazel eyes, clear skin, and tall-ish sort of frame. Mrs. Donnes, the pretty and nice mom.

Anyway, as soon as the words of Mrs. Donnes slipped out of her mouth, Ceralyn (or Lynnie, as Mrs. Donnes nicknamed her) blurted,"But we can't! We just started!"

I raised my eyebrows slightly. Felt like a couple of quick hours to me. Not so long, but enough for me to want to stop, even with my being determined to get the lead of my musical, Annie. Obviously, I wanted to be Annie, as I wanted to get the experience. Or Miss Hannigan. She seems to be really mean and loud, and I can be pretty loud too. Some adults say I got attitude when I call for it, and I'm not shy at all. So I think I sort of suit the part.

Overall, I wanted the lead role, and I was able to work much harder to secure my spot. So you know what I said? It was,"Same here. Maybe just a break would be nice, though. A little one."

Hey, just because I'm going to work harder doesn't mean I do it in one go!

"Oh, alrighty, then!" Mrs. Donnes said,"I need a break, too, so if you girls need me, I'll be in the library, okay? I trust you two will be able to control yourselves with me gone." She left with a smile and a wink, leaving Ceralyn and i sinking into her fluffy bed.

Then I remembered something.

"Ceralyn?" I poked her.

"Yeah?" She jabbed me back, a small smile playing on the corners of her mouth.

I didn't turn it into a poke war, I just focused on the point I was trying to get at. "What were you going to tell me back at dance?" She froze. I wondered why, since she's one of her best friends, and I'm hers, so what was there to hide that she couldn't tell me?

"Er, um, about that."

"Go on..."

"You see..." Ceralyn took a deep breath. "You see, at school, there's a bunch of mean people. And they don't like me, for some reason I don't understand. I guess I'm weird to them, but the last time I've been really weird was in Grade Two. So, when I had this new friend, Irilie- well, she was real nice to me, and we were good friends, like, right away. After a bit, she... She thought I was annoying, and really, I wasn't. People were trying to steal her from me! My only friend! And we had a lot in common, like we liked the Arts, her dancing and singing, and me just singing. I mean, I'm okay at art, but I like singing best." Another deep breath. She continued," So she started to wander off, and I was afraid of being alone again, but it still happened. And now she hates me because I wouldn't be friends with everyone she was with, because they are mean, and everyone thinks she's sooo popular, and sooo cool. She thinks she's better than everyone in the whole school! Teachers love Irilie- THEY, of all people, fell for her trap! And so, so prove to everyone, I'm going to sing and dance, even better than Irilie herself. But I like dancing anyway, so it's not too hard to improve." Ceralyn's face was flushed, because she said it in a few breaths in between. Also relieved, but a little nervous for my reaction, I suppose. What my reaction was? It was half: Wow, I feel a little bad for her. She is a little strange sometimes, but so much that people would hate her so much?

But on the other half: How can I know she's not stretching the truth here? I mean, I only heard one perspective- hers. And don't get me wrong here- Ceralyn's a great friend, it's just that if she's this blood-thirsty for, I guess, revenge, then maybe this side of her is different. So I said,"Is that it? If this Irilie girl is so unworthy of you, then why are you spending so much energy on her? If everyone's so stupid, then why do you have to prove yourself again?"

She didn't speak.

I waited. And waited.

Then...

I waited some more.

Then...

Ceralyn said softly,"I have to because I can't just.. Sit there, doing nothing. I still have to do it to be able to say,'I showed them what I'm made of.' it's not about impressing anymore. I have to prove myself, to myself as well.

Not just them."

"So, what you're saying is, is that you have to show them that Irilie is not everything, and that you aren't just weird? To yourself, too?"

"Yes. Exactly that."

Oh, okay, then. But still, she doesn't have to hate them. Just, you know, start over or something.

**********

I was finally at home. Peace. And quiet.

But not for long, as my mom called,"Laila! Your father and I want a little chat with you!"

"Coming!"

Most times, when parents call you for a 'little chat' it means that you get in some sort of trouble. It's in movies and books all the time, but not in my family. A little chat is just a small discussion. Period. No scary glares or finger pointing.

I ran down the stairs and sat next to my parents on the couch. "Hey," I greeted them. " What's happenin'?"

My mom arched an eyebrow. Dad said,"That's what we wanted to ask you. Whats going on lately?" He didn't say it like he was expecting problems. Just an update personally from me, on my life. "Well, there's a musical at school, and I'm trying out. That's okay with you guys, right?" Thy nodded, and asked,"What production is your school presenting?"

"Annie. You know, the orphan girl?"

Mom chuckled. "Yes, Laila, we are familiar with Annie. It's a very good musical!"

"Thats what Mrs. Donnes said, too! And they invited me to come over after ballet classes to practice- Ceralyn's school's showing a musical, too. So we wanna practice together until we have to go more individually."

"That's a great idea!" Dad said. I nodded.

"Well, is that the only new thing going on?"

"Pretty much, yeah."

"Okay, then."

I started up the stairs again until Dad said,"And Laila, by the way, this Friday our family is going to dinner at a new co-worker of mine."

"Even Willie?" I forgot to mention, but William Stanton is my little brother, and he's in his last year at kindergarten. He's five. Sometimes we leave him at home with a babysitter if we're at places little kids shouldn't really be.

"Yes. Willie's tagging along this time."

"Sure. Well... G'night!"

"Sweet dreams, honey!" Mom said.

I smiled, and headed to my room, getting ready for bed.

Well, that's it for this time! And about Laila's POV, hoped it was interesting for you guys! (: comment on what you want or think will happen in the near future, and if you like my uploads, please comment and vote! Thankyoou:) and MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!!!! :):):):)
