Jamie slowly walked to the gates of Hilltop.

She had her walker mask on and she was the only Whisperer there. She had had enough of Alpha's lies. She knew Lydia wasn't dead and Lydia even told her she was more like a mother to her than Alpha ever was.

She saw the guards up top aim their guns at her. But when she stopped, they lowered them and called for Daryl. Not long after, people with guns came out and aimed them at her head in case she tried anything. Then Daryl approached her with a scowl and once he was in front of her, she removed her mask then looked up at him.

"What do you want?" Daryl asked.

"I'm here to surrender," Jamie answered, making him a little confused, even though he didn't show it, then she continued, "I know that I haven't made an effort to leave Alpha, but I'm tired of her lies and I was only with them to look after Lydia. I don't care if you lock me in the cell you have here. If you need to interrogate me, I don't care. I'm just not going back to Alpha."

Daryl looked at her skeptically then nodded to the others and they lowered their weapons.

"Take her to the cell," Daryl told them.

Two of them grabbed her arms and led her inside. Then once inside and Lydia saw her, she stopped dead in her tracks. As did Jamie, who was in shock herself.

"J-Jamie?" Lydia asked, not believing it.

"Hey, Lyd," Jamie smiled sheepishly.

Without hesitation, Lydia ran to her and wrapped her arms around her neck, making Jamie wrap hers around her waist.

"What are you doing here?" Lydia asked, tears forming.

"I'm tired of doing what Alpha wants and I wanted to make sure that you were safe. So, I surrendered and they're gonna keep me in a cell for a while," Jamie answered.

They parted and Jamie was taken to the cell. Lydia looked at Daryl, who gave her sympathetic look before she walked off.

Not long after, Jamie was sitting in her cell when she heard the door open. She saw Daryl come in front of her cell door and pull up a small stool. He then sat on it and looked at her.

"What do you want to know?" Jamie asked.

"Why did it take you so long to leave Alpha?" Daryl wondered.

She sighed and answered, "I remember when you and that other girl came to get that guy, Henry, out. I saw that Lydia liked him and she was happy for once. So when you guys were talking with him, I told her to go with you guys. I stayed behind so they wouldn't track us both. And I didn't care what they did to me; I wasn't gonna let them know where she was. I officially left when Alpha kept saying she was dead, so I went out to find her. By the time I gave up, I came here."

"So you didn't find her until today," he guessed.

"Yeah," Jamie nodded.

"Well, at least she had some protection," Daryl pointed out.

She chuckled bitterly then commented sarcastically, "Yeah. Some help I was when Alpha beat her."

"But at least you showed her the kind of love that didn't involve a beating," he said.

She looked at him, a little confused, then asked, "Why are you trying to assure me of that? Last time I checked we were on opposite sides and even when I surrendered, you seem like the kind of guy who would be looking for any bull crap I try to cook up."

"Yeah. Well, after Lydia noticed and hugged you, I knew you weren't lying. And you're right: I can tell if someone's lying. That's why I can tell you're not. But the others wanna keep you in here," he told her.

"I can understand that," Jamie said then pointed out with a smirk, "You said 'the others'. Does that mean you don't?"

Daryl chuckled then said, "Maybe not. If you can help us take out Alpha, we'll need your experience."

"I can do that," she nodded.

"Good. I'll see if I can convince them to give you a more decent place to stay," he said, getting up.

Jamie smiled a bit then as he left, she said, "Thanks, Daryl. Not just for this, but for taking care of Lydia when I couldn't."

Daryl seemed to smile a bit then said, "Don't mention it."

After he left, Jamie felt hope for the first time since this outbreak started.
