Jamie peeked around the corner to see if her boyfriend, Daryl, was around.
(A/N Outfit.)
She didn't see him, so she snuck his crossbow out and ran to Michonne's house. Once there, she set the crossbow to the side, knocked on the door, and waited, looking around. Then Judith answered the door.
"Hey, Aunt Jamie," she greeted.
"Hey, Ju. Has Daryl said anything about you learning crossbow?" Jamie asked.
"No. Only because when I ask, he's always said 'no' and I'm not ready," Judith answered.
"Well, what he doesn't know won't hurt him," Jamie smirked, picking the crossbow up.
"You didn't," Judith smiled.
"Oh I did. Now we gotta make this quick. So get dressed, get your sword, and let's go," Jamie urged.
Judith nodded and quickly got her stuff.
Once she did, they sped-walked to the gate and they let them out.
Daryl had taught Jamie how to use his crossbow back at the prison, basically when Judith was born. So she felt that Judith was ready to learn to use a crossbow.
They made it to a good spot and pulled out some small targets out of her bag.
"I know these are small; the big ones can't fit in my bag," Jamie told her.
Judith giggled a little and said, "I gotcha."
She gave Judith the crossbow and put the targets on different trees. She then went back to Judith and showed her the basics.
(A/N I'm not gonna put the instructions because I do not know how to shoot a crossbow; I'm only at bow and arrow level and it's a work-in progress. 😂)
As she taught her, she saw how well Judith was progressing at this.
"You're a fast learner, Ju. Nice job," Jamie complemented.
"Thanks," Judith said.
"Now remember, if Daryl finds out, you tell him it was me. Total truth. He will most likely be mad, but at least it'll be at me," Jamie told her.
"Got it. Thanks again, Aunt Jamie," Judith told her, hugging her.
"You're welcome, Ju," Jamie smiled, returning the hug, then told her, "Let's head back."
They packed up their stuff and went back, killing some walkers on the way.
When they got back, they saw Daryl, fuming immensely.
"Who took my crossbow?" he yelled at Gabriel.
"I don't know; we'll ask around," Gabriel assured.
"Judith, go on home. I gotta deal with Grumpy," Jamie told her.
"With who?" Judith asked in confusion.
"It's from a Disney movie. I'll explain later. Just go on home," Jamie said.
Judith obeyed and Jamie approached her boyfriend, his crossbow over her shoulder.
"Dare!" she called, making him look at her.
He immediately went to her and she held his crossbow out to him, to which he took it.
"You taking my stuff?" he demanded quietly.
"Come back to our place and I'll tell you," she whispered.
He obeyed and they made their way there.
Once inside, she took her jacket off and threw it on the couch.
"So why'd ya take my crossbow?" he asked.
"I know you haven't taught Judith how to use one yet, so I decided to do it myself," she sighed.
"She's not ready for that," Daryl argued.
Jamie gave him a disbelieving look and asked. "You really think that?"
He nodded and she scoffed, digging through her backpack. She pulled out the targets then went to him.
"Look at these and tell me the same thing. I didn't fire it except for taking down some walkers," Jamie remarked, handing them to him.
He looked at them, seeing a couple bullseyes and some near them, which surprised him.
"She's better than I was when I started. But I still had the best teacher and I just wanted to show her what he taught me," she stated then said, "You still don't think she was ready? Was I?"
She then went up the stairs, leaving a confused and puzzled Daryl.
Later that night, Jamie was just lying in her bed on her side, deep in thought.
(A/N Her pajamas (but let's say it says, "But First Caffeine" since I don't drink coffee.)
They were interrupted when she felt the bed dip. She turned slightly to see Daryl's scarred back.
"I'm sorry. You were right. Judith is a better aim than I thought. But...it wouldn't hurt to give her some pointers. So...I'll teach her and we can both teach her how to track," he said.
She smiled, sat up, and placed a hand on his bare shoulder.
"What made you come around?" Jamie asked.
"It wasn't just the targets ya showed me. It's just...sometimes I can't help but still see her as the baby I held, calling her Lil' Ass Kicker," Daryl answered then continued, "But I also see a side of her that makes me think of you. I know you don't need saving, but I taught ya because I wanted to give you that bit of extra protection so I didn't have to physically keep ya safe all the time."
"As long as I had a part of you," she clarified.
"Yeah," Daryl nodded.
Jamie scooted closer to him, got him to look at her, then kissed his lips. It was relatively short, but still amazing just the same.
"I appreciate that. There's also nothing wrong with how you saw Judith. But she's still Lil' Ass Kicker, newborn or eleven," she said.
He nodded, replying, "I know."
They kissed for a while before retiring to bed, happy to have come to terms with what to teach Judith.
