Hey so I feel like this chapter needs a disclaimer. It's probably going to be really bad and boring. Sorry it's a filler chapter and there were things in the story that I wanted to happen so I can get on with the story.

Chapter 10

"Come on, it's not going to be easy."

"I know." Came out a groan.

"Then push yourself. Make yourself stronger than you were before."

Alec was "training" me, basically yelling at me while I try to walk. We woke up with the sun and started immediately. It's just before noon and I'm dying. It's a hot day, probably in the high 80s, and I've been walking for a few hours. Normally this would be no problem, but having not moved more than a few yard with help in the last few weeks have seriously weakened my muscles. Now I'm limping, barely putting one foot in front of the other, panting like a dog, and using a walking stick to support most of my weight.

"Please..." I was too out of breath to get anything more than that out.

"Ten minute break."

I collapsed on the ground, my body was too weak. Everything hurt-more that usual- all I wanted to do was go back to the house and crawl into bed and never come out. Then I remembered why I'm training, so I can get to Georgia, so I can hopefully find my family and make a life there.

Alec sits down next to me, offering me a bottle of water. I selfishly drink half of it.

"I think after about a week of this you'll be in fighting shape." I give Alec a look an incredulous look. "Maybe not fighting, but at least running shape." He gives me a hopeful look.

I nod because I'm too winded to say anything. I've never been entirely proud of my physical activities, sure I used to played volleyball and dance, but I also liked tv (what teen didn't?). The first month of the Outage was my physical peak. Now it's by far the most pathetic my physical state has ever been. I was ashamed about how weak I was.

Alec sat next to me, we sat in comfortable silence until my breathing slowed and returned to regular.

"Ready to go? We only have another mile or so until we make it back to the house." Alec stood up, swung the gun he carried over his shoulder then gave me a hand up.

Alec had marked a path in the woods, it was away from the streets so hopefully we didn't cross anyone's path but we still brought the gun as a safety precaution. The wooded path was long, a several mile long loop. It was nice to get out of the house but now all I wanted to do was go back and rest.

I was shaky on my feet. As soon as Alec pulled me to my feet, my knees gave out and I returned to the ground. Or at least I would have if Alec didn't have as fast of reflexes as he did. He wrapped an arm around my waist, pulling me to his chest, holding me there to make sure I kept my footing. He relinquished his grip on my waist but still held onto my upper arm.

"Thank you." I muttered.

We walked farther in the woods. I was amazing I was still walking, being propelled forward by some invisible force.

Alec guided me by the arm for a while until I physically was unable to lift my leg. I hated to admit defeat, sure I would complain but I truly wanted to get better.

"I can."

"What do you mean?" I could tell by the look on Alec's face that he knew exactly what I meant. He was disappointed, he thought I was stronger.

I thought I was too.

Apparently the look on my face gave away what I was feeling as much as his did. The next second, Alec's hand slide from my arm to my back, then his other arm came down and wrapped around my knees.
