Blackness. All around him was blackness. It was like a muddy ocean was keeping him trapped under. He felt like he had been swimming forever; he felt like the last time he took a break was ages ago. He had only a small voice of heartbreak to keep him motivated. He didn’t even know who the voice belonged to, yet he remembered wanting to see them again so badly-to just touch their soft cheeks and to look into their ocean eyes.
“C-Come on babe…” the voice croaked again as he felt something warm hold and rub against his hand. He liked the feeling. “Th-They say th-that...They say that if you don’t wake up th-they’re gonna unplug y-you…” He felt a sharp sting tear though his chest as he began to swim faster. The thought of him being seperated from that voice was too incomprehensible.
It felt like his body was about to give out when he saw a small light. He didn’t know what that light meant, but he swam towards it with as much strength as his body would give, tearing through the- slowly getting lighter-black water. Finally, he had reached the soft white glow he had seen. He heard a soft sniffle coming from the light that made his heart ache. Slowly, he reached out to touch it. The light was warm and familiar as he was slowly fading away from the dark reality he had known so long, into what seemed brighter and more colorful.
He opened his eyes slowly as bright, fluorescent light burned his eyes. He felt something latch onto his hand as it held something warm. Something soft and comforting. As his eyes readjusted he saw a pair of teary, ocean blue eyes stare into his. The same ones he was craving like a drug when he was in that black ocean.
“J-Jacky...?” The soft voice from the ocean asked. Only now he knew that voice belonged to the man sitting by his side.
He smiled warmly. “Hey pumpkin.” he whispered as tears pricked his eyes. He saw a blur of ginger hair jump towards him as frail arms wrapped around him. He weakly brought his hands up to hold his boyfriend’s back. He felt a certain wetness form small puddles on his neck and gown.
“I-I missed you...” Hamilton hugged him tighter. “...So much…” he whispered as he choked on his own tears.
Laurens held him as close as possible without pressing against his aching ribs. He kissed the boy’s forehead and played with his ginger hair. “I missed you too babe...more than you could ever imagine.”
It was almost silent as the sobbing boy tried to calm himself. Joy was an overwhelming feeling he’d rather feel than the pain he felt for oh so many months. Hamilton pulled back as a nurse dropped by silently to up Laurens’s pain meds. Laurens still held his cheek. “How did I get here? Where are we?”
Hamilton smiled and held the hand resting on his cheek. “A scout from our side found us. Herc to be exact, and he brought us back. We’re in New York, and they couldn’t treat us very well at the base so they brought us here. A special little hospital for extended injuries.”
“At least I’m alive and with you.” He said smiling. He studied Hamilton’s face until something from the corner of his eye caught his attention. He brought Hamilton’s hand down and flipped it over, exposing lines of various shades of red. He stared at his boyfriend as the latter was too shocked to do anything and froze. Both males began to tear up from different reasons. “Baby...why?”
Hamilton looked away and whispered, “I-I’m sorry...I’m sorry J-John.”
“Hey. No, no, no...don’t be sorry. Don’t be afraid either, okay?” he reached for his boyfriend and held his hand. “I just wanna know why doll.”
“B-Because…”
“Because…?”
“B-Because you were a-asleep for four m-months...four months without you.” He whispered in sorrow as Laurens froze. Four months. It didn’t seem like he had been swimming for that long now that he was out. Four months without his baby. “Th-They lost you twice. Twice John, almost three times. I thought you were never coming back...they said it was rare, ya know? Rare that a person in your condition could survive once, let alone twice. F-For crying out loud, you are in the ICU. I-I couldn’t take losing you. Not ever so I did what I had to. I had to stop the pain, and I’m not proud of it..but it stopped…” the ginger male was crying softly and the blond brought him in for a hug and held him.
“Hey...it’s okay...you’re not perfect. No one is. But you can’t do that baby-”
“-I know, okay? I-I’m sorry..”
Laurens held him tighter. “No don’t be...I know for a fact that you were probably off your meds, weren’t you?” Hamilton nodded slowly. “And you were lonely and scared, but I’m back. I’m here to stay. I’m here for you, always. Promise me to never do that again..”
“I promise Jacky…” Hamilton felt a pair of chapped lips peck his forehead. He smiled softly.
“How about when I get out of here we get married, hm? I’ve spent enough time seperated and I want you to be mine forever.”
Hamilton giggled. “I’m already yours forever but hey, I’m down.”
Laurens chuckled. “You can’t be down. It’s a yes or no.”
“Nope. I’m down for a wedding.”
“Our wedding.”
“Oh hush. Yes, our wedding.”
Laurens kissed him lovingly as Hamilton kissed back. Laurens rested his hands on Hamilton’s waist and pulled back. “Maybe after we get out of our casts and splints. I mean that bandage wrapped around your arm is so sexy but I don’t think you can hold a bouquet.”
Hamilton wiggles his brows. “Oh~? My cast is sexy~?”
Laurens chuckled. “Hm~ Quite a turn on must I say~”
“Ah yes, how could I forget your cast kink?”
Laurens laughed. “Cast kink? Come up with something creative like Broken arm fettish.”
Hamilton wrinkled up his nose. “Now that sounds less sexy.”
Laurens chuckled and kissed his boyfriend’s scrunched up nose, finding it adorable. “Probably, but you’d still let me fuck you if I had it.”
Hamilton rolled his eyes. “Whatever baby. I love you.”
“I love you too.” And just like that, they were pulled into a kiss of love. Neither man wanted to leave the other’s side.
