Chapter 9: Our new life
Cheryl's POV
Waking up the next day just didn't feel right. I'd still have to walk past those men to get to the bus stop. I'd still have to walk around,a target for all men. For any man to touch, not because they got permission but because they think they're entitled. I got out of bed finally. All this thinking is making my head hurt."Hi, honey." My dad shapes walking into my room. I gotta start locking my door. "Hi, what are you doing up so early. You usually wake up early to go to work or to go down to the church." I said stretching pulling the covers off of me.
"Well, today's different. You need me and I need you. It can be like old times, when we use to have fun together. You know? Father daughter day?" He said smiling. "Dad,I REALLY appreciate you wanting to spend time with me but, I don't think this is a good idea." I said.
"You don't think this is a good idea?" Clifford said looking at his daughter. "I've got work to do, so do you. Just think of today as a normal day." Cheryl said smiling as her father got up and left the room, his head hanging low.
At school
Cheryl's POV
Her class is the stupidest most pointless class I've very been to. Who thought I'd be a good idea to make her a teacher? "What is so important,Ms.Blossom?" She asked the whole class the time around to look at me. "N-nothing, what do you mean?" She chuckled. "We've been reading this book for almost 3 hours and you have shown little to no interest in the topic of conversation." She said smirking as my cheeks heated. "I-I j-just- I-" "I think I've heard enough. You've just landed yourself a front row seat into detention." She said walking to the back of the classroom handing me my slip. I held my head low afraid that if I lifted it I'd cry. I can't cry in front of the whole school. I took it from her hands shoving it into my bag as the bell rang."I'd like you to stay seated Ms.Blossom. I'd like to have a word with you." She said. Slowly but surely the class emptied. Only me and her were left in the room. The room was completely silent. "I-I don't understand why you wanted to speak to me." I whispered.
She took a deep breath and looked at me, she walked over to me and sat down directly across from me. "You seem extremely distracted these days, it's almost as if you're a different person. I've noticed a decrease in grade, participation, intrest I've-"
"I get it, okay. a lot's been going on this past month. My mother and father are really hard on me and I...I'm trying, I'm really trying." I said looking up at her the entire time. "I've been studying more and I've been trying to catch up." I said smiling. "I'm happy to hear that but just to be sure, I think you should stay for tutoring tomorrow." She said smiling. Tutoring? I've never stayed for tutoring before. "Sorry but I've got work tomorrow I-"
"I'm afraid I wasn't asking Ms.Blossom. I'll tell your parents to make sure you're here tomorrow." She said standing next to the door. "You're dismissed." I scoffed getting up grabbing my things and storming out. "Hey rednose!" Toni said with her leg on the wall playing with the ends of her hair. Of course she's here when I don't wanna talk to her.
"Hi Toni." I said in my sweetest voice. "What happened in there?" She asked turning towards me. I shook my head. "It's not important, what do you want?" She chuckled "Damn! Somebody's having a quote unquote bad day." It's quote bad day unquote! "Just leave me alone Toni, I have things to do." I said walking away.
"So I'll see you at the bookstore!" She yelled from behind me as I continued to walk away.
At Home
I stormed upstairs into my room slamming the door not caring who got mad or angry. I had a problem, and I needed to fix it myself. I took my books out of my bag and threw them on the bed taking off my glasses and sitting them on the night stand. I sighed climbing into my bed lying down on my silk pillows finally letting out a loud and quite dramatic sigh. "Ugh!""Cherry-cake?" I heard somebody say from my door. I looked up "Dad?" I said sitting up fixing my shirt and hair in the process. "What are you doing here? I thought the church was keeping you late tonight. Don't they have that dumb singles thing?" He looked at me and chuckled.
"The Loving Lord Singles Night is not dumb. It's a chance to find someone who shares the same beliefs and views as you. It's a very trustworthy and amazing process." He said Turing towards me. "Sure it is dad. A bunch of bible thumpers in one room talking about god." I said sarcastically.
"Honey..." he sighed. "I was kidding, dad." I said grabbing my book opening it. He sat there a little while looking at me until I turned towards him. "What? Do I have something on my face?" He shook his head. "No, it's just you used to be really into this stuff..." He said playing with his fingers. "When I was 7 dad. Things have changed-" "Well I don't want them too." I sighed once again.
"Dad..." No answer "Hey..." I said placing my hand on his cheek turning him towards me. "If it really means that much to you I'll go." He smiled a little. "You know you don't have to-" "I want to." I said smiling. "Alright! It's at 8 you know that, right?" He said getting up. I nodded. "Yeah, I did help set it up." I chuckled. "Alright then." He said leaving my room.
A mysterious time jump
"Freak! Freak! Freak!" Cheryl said splashing water on her face. She was 3 minutes into this singles night and she couldn't feel worse. "You can do this, you can do this, you can-" "Sounds like someone isn't enjoys singles night." Someone said from behind her. Cheryl turnt around and looked at them."Who would enjoy singles night?" She said turning back around drying her face with her shirt. "That is so unsanitary." Cheryl sighed smacking her hand on the counter looking up at the girl from the mirror. "Is there something you need, or are you just gonna sit there pestering me?!" The girl burst out into a fit of laughter.
"Look at the preachers daughter , getting all frisky." She said with a pouting face. "What do you want?" Cheryl said she was obviously annoyed. The girl sighed. "It's not 'what' I want it's who I want." She said stepping closer to Cheryl. Cheryl backed up looking her up and down rolling her eyes.
" I'm leaving." She said walking to the door only for the girl to run in front of her and lean against it. Cheryl sighed, she was only a second from hurting this girl. "Why you running from me? I just wanna talk to you." The girl said playing with the ends of Cheryl's hair. "Oh, please." Cheryl said taking her hair out of her hands.
"If you're gonna harass me at least tell me your name." Cheryl said backing away from her. "It's Claire." She said flipping her hair a little. "Now that we're acquainted..." she said trailing her hand to Cheryl's chest. Cheryl chuckled. "You like that?" She asked leaning in to kiss her.
Before she knew it Cheryl had grabbed ahold of her neck aggressively pushing her against the wall. Claire smiles moving her hands to Cheryl's shirt. Cheryl grabbed her wrist pinning it to the wall. "Listen here you-you bitch! If you ever in your life try to fucking touch me again I'll have your blood all over these fucking walls!" She yelled slamming Claire's back onto the wall as she tried to fight her way out of her hold.
"P-pl-please let g-go" Claire struggled to get out clawing at Cheryl's arm. "Pathetic." Cheryl said letting her go. Claire dropped to the ground gasping for air. "Y-you crazy bitch!" She yelled getting up leaving the bathroom.
Cheryl was about to leave until she caught a glimpse of herself in the mirror.
