Yesterday

" Are you sure that this homework is really so important that I can't talk about more important things until it's done?" Molly sighed, kicking her shoes off and sitting on her bed.

Smiling, Harrison, her best friend, sat next to her, dropping several books onto Molly's bed as he did so, and answered," Sadly yes. Trust me I want to know why you are suddenly so desperate for me to come over, too." Getting up, and putting some music on, Molly tried to wait patiently for him to finish his maths homework, but her mind kept insisting that what she had to say was far more important than maths homework, of all things.

"Harrison?"Molly asked.
He looked up. "Yes?"
Molly opened her mouth to say something and then shut it again," Doesn't matter," she mumbled. The same conversation replayed itself several times over.

"Harry?"
"Yes Miss Sidetrack?" her best friend grinned and, shutting his books turned to face her, "I'm all yours now. Seeing as you've been staring at me like some sort of really love-struck romantic for the past half an hour."

"I've shared a lie with the whole of social media," Molly blurted out, "You see, Hannah, this really annoying girl from school gave me this link to a website, which said at the top of the page calculates your true love and you know how much I love those' predicting your future' pages. Anyway, it said type your name and then, type your crush. So I typed my name. And then for the part that said type your crush, I'm not going to be sharing stuff like that with the world, am I?So I... kind of... typed in the name of my boy best friend."

She didn't look at Harrison as she said all of this because she was too embarrassed about what she was saying. "And," she continued," When I pressed calculate, it said haha you fell for the trick. Your name and score are being sent to Hannah, via her social media page."

Molly looked down at her purple bed cover, still refusing to look at him. "So. That means that people now think that you like me, that you are the most gullible person on the planet, and that people are going to be teasing me and you forevermore. Perfect," Harrison said trying not to frown.
" I'm so sorry," Molly tried, wishing she hadn't said anything now," I'm going so I can give you some space now."
Harrison let her get halfway to Molly's bedroom door, before saying, "Stop."
Molly stopped, thinking that if that's what he wanted he must not be too mad..

"Look," Harrison started, making his way over to where Molly was standing, "Okay, the whole planet now thinks that you're crushing on me. And you've messed up pretty big... But..." he paused for a second, his brown eyes meeting Molly's," You're my best friend. And that means that when you mess up, I'm here for you. So, no I don't mind that you've just told the whole of Hannah's social media, that you like me when you don't." With that he wrapped Molly in a warm hug, that reassured Molly that he wasn't mad.
"Thanks, H, "Molly whispered, hugging him tightly.

1st August 2020

That's me and Harrison. My amigo, chum, buddy, crush... If your thinking "crush?!" yeah, it's true. Harrison is my best friend for life and my crush. It's an interesting relationship because I'm almost 100% certain that he likes me back. So we both hide our feelings even though we both think that we like each other back. It's probably the craziest thing on the planet.

You see me and Harrison have more history than you'd think is humanely possible. Years of friendship and laughter... and also arguments and disagreements. It started when we were younger. Prepare yourself for hundreds of flashbacks, because I'm about to tell the story of a few certain people in my life.

29th May 2014

Sunsets are beautiful. Whoever decided that sunsets are the most romantic things on the planet, I totally agree with you. So my family and Harrison's family (and a few of my friends and their families) were on a camping holiday in Norfolk, and one night my parents decided that we should go up to a hill in Sheringham, which has the most amazing view of the sky, making it an obvious place to go and relax and do what they wanted to do: watch the sunset.

Now, Harrison and I had known each other for many years before we went on that holiday, so we were looking forward to spending the evening together. In fact, even now I can still remember being a mix of nerves and excitement for spending the night with Harrison... So when we got up to where we were going to be watching the sunset for the evening, he asked if he could talk to me.

"Molly," Harrison began, his eyes holding mine, "I have a question. I need some advice for a friend... I know somebody who is moving away to a different country. To Australia, in fact. And they know this girl, that they really like, but they haven't told her yet. They're too scared that their friendship will be broken if he told her..."
"It's me, isn't it?" I looked down at my feet, my smile disappearing. I felt so stupid, I was crushing on somebody moving to Australia, which meant I would almost definitely never see him again. I didn't want to stay with him any more. Lifting my eyes from the ground, I looked him in the eyes and said in a voice with the least emotion that I could manage, "Goodbye."

I walked over to my parents, and my older sister Lucy, drove me back to the campsite. The next evening, Lucy asked me to come with her. She drove me out to the hill, just in time for the sunset, and told me," I think somebody wants to see you one more time." I got out of the car and ran up the hill where I saw Harrison waiting, and my heart lurched.

"I'm so sorry. It's not my decision. Don't you see? I came here today because I care. Do you really think that I normally drag myself up a hill, waiting to see someone? It breaks me to leave you. But I have to leave. My family is moving so I have to move too." He took my hands and I leaned against him watching the sun slowly set in the amber sky.

"When," I asked, "Will you be back?"

So life went on. I began to stop thinking about Harrison. I never really accepted the fact that he just left me like that. I stupidly never asked for his phone number, so I couldn't contact him. Instead, I got on with my own life.

And then I met Brandon.
