Chapter 40 - Null and Annoyed

MacKenzie's POV

I walk into the cortex to see Harry yelling at his thinking cap

"This useless piece of trash is...useless." Harry says, hitting the cap with frustration. "It's like I'm so dumb I can't even come up with a good synonym for this useless piece of trash!"

"Harry, no one could have predicted that Null would have picked herself out of the cuffs or taken a hostage." Iris says

"Nor did either of you predict the location of a 120-pound woman using the curvature of spacetime caused by the uneven distribution of mass yet still somehow failed to account for the gravitational pull of a 4,000-pound car floating right above her head." Harry says, frustrated

"Scientists have spent decades trying to understand relativity and quantum gravity." barry says

"This is not about understanding gravity, Allen." Harry says. "It's about understanding her or not understanding her! As it turns out, DeVoe can somehow calculate human behavior."

"Harry, stop." Barry says. "Look, I'm the one that let her get away. You did your best."

"Did I, Allen?" Harry asks, mad. "Really? This is the second meta to evade the dampening cuffs. It's been almost a year, and where are we? And where's DeVoe?!" He screams, walking out

Barry looks to Iris

"What?" Barry asks her

"Nothing, it's just you went out into the field, you had a plan, and it didn't work." Iris says

"But they do for DeVoe." Barry says. "Harry's not wrong. DeVoe's gone over every possible outcome before making his plans."

"Which we can't do, and neither can Harry." Iris says

"Well, then what are we supposed to do?" Barry asks. "I mean, you just want us to adlib like Ralph wants us to?"

"Barry, you didn't see it, but when you were gone, Ralph rose to the occasion." Iris says. "He cracked jokes. He thought outside the box. I mean, he got the job done in the way that he knows how. So, the question is, are you upset with Ralph because you think he's screwing around or because he's not following your plan?"

Barry had gone down to talk to Ralph

While he was gone, we had tracked Null

"Barry, we found Null." Iris says through the comms

Barry speeds into the cortex with Ralph

"Where?" Barry asks

"Central City Museum." Iris tells him

"Alright, let's go." Barry says to Ralph

"Wait." I say, pulling their attention. "I can help."

"I'm sorry, Mack, not on this one." Barry says

"Why not?" I ask

"Look, Mack, I don't have time." Barry says quickly. "Stay with Iris!" He exclaims, speeding out

Caitlin, Cisco, and Harry join us in the cortex, tracking Barry and Ralph

Security feed is brought up of the party they're at

"No getaway cars this time." We hear Barry tell Null

"Right." Null says. "No cars. But there are an awful lot of passengers."

Null squats to the ground, touching it and the floor turns blue

People panic and start running
