Chapter 19. Joy

I know they've been very worried with everything that's been happening. With being threatened a while ago, figuring out training times and the banishing of that guy. Its scary to think about and I don't want them to have to worry all the time. They are grown ups though and I know they will worry always, especially after me and the other children.

I want to help them smile more. I mean they do smile and laugh but seems like less now with everything else. What can I do to help them smile more? I can maybe draw them something, but I don't know if that will be enough.

Maybe cooking. I know Rosie enjoyed cooking and we haven't done anything like that in a while. Oh, maybe make some cake and I can bring some to Elora. Her baby shower was very nice and it seems like she got upset at the end. Maybe cake will help her feel better too. It will be fun and hopefully help left spirits. I want to be able to do something other then sit around.

Maybe a sleep over would be nice with some of the other children. I don't want to inconvenience Rosie though. I think cake for now should be good. I know Rosie is somewhere close, but I don't know where exactly. I go to the kitchen and don't see her in here. I look in the pantry though and find some things for the cake. Or things I think we will need anyways.

"Woah, woah, woah little man what do you think your doing?" Alpha Gray asks coming into the kitchen. I look up to him with a smile.

"I know things have been stressful and I wanted to bake a cake with you and Rosie. I also wanted to make one for Elora. She was crying at her baby shower. I want to make her happy with a cake." I tell him innocently. He looks at me with a wide smile. He kneels down and brings me into a hug.

"Ok that sounds like a good idea. But that doesn't mean you just come and take things out of the cupboard without Rosie or me here ok bud. I don't want you getting hurt or eating something you shouldn't." He says putting a few of the things away.

"Sorry. I just want to do something nice." I say frowning slightly. I didn't want to do anything wrong.

"Hey now come here. Its ok you didn't know. Some of those things you took out aren't needed for a cake or pie ok. I know you want to do something nice and be helpful, but you also follow a recipe ok. Rosie will be here soon. She was in the grove smelling some of the flowers." He tells me as he playfully messes up my hair.

I nod my head. He leans against the island as we wait for Rosie to come in. It doesn't take long. When she comes in, she's holding a few wild flowers in her hand. She smiles at us finding a vase to put them in. She puts some water into the vase and the flowers before setting it onto the island.

"Ok. So, what will we be making today?" Rosie asks me looking at what's already on the island.

"Cake and pie. I want to do some baking with you. I also want to make something for Elora. She was crying at her baby shower and I want to bring her something to help her feel better." I tell her with a smile.

"Alright Luca that sounds like a plan. What kind would you like to make for Elora and what one for us?" She asks me with a big smile. This is going to be fun.

"Black forest cake for us. For Elora I would like to make and apple pie. Its simple and I think she will like it." I tell them both.

"Ok. Lets bring up the recipe and get out what we need. We can make the pie crust by hand and let it rest while we work on the cake ok. Does that sound good?" She asks me curiously.

"Yes, I like that." I tell her. They both get a recipe up one of the things we will be making. When they got it up, they helped get what we need to make each thing. Bowls, pans, and utensils spread out with the ingredients. I stand up on a stool so I can help make the stuff. They put a big bowl in front of me a stirring spoon, measuring cup and flour.

I put in the flour we need for the dough. As well as the other dry ingredients. I get the spoon and stir it together. Slowly Rosie pours in the wet as I keep stirring. It got to hard to keep stirring so Alpha Gray took the bowl and kept working it. At a certain point the dough gets taken out of the bowl and worked together. When that is done its set aside to rest for a while.

A few new bowls are put in front of me. We put the dry and wet in different bowls. Alpha gray does the whip cream in a bowl. It looks a little silly watching him hold the bowl and make the cream for it like that. I can't help laughing. He puts some on my nose for laughing. I eat it and continue making the chocolate cake. When the whip cream is done, he covers it and puts it in the fridge for later.

The oven beeps behind us as Rosie pours the mix into 3 different pans. I stay back as she opens the oven and puts the pans into the oven to cook. Alpha gets a pan out and turns it on. We cut up apples and put them into the pan with some cinnamon. So, this is how you make the filling for apple pie. Alpha lets me stir it occasionally so it doesn't burn. I also watch as Rosie cut the dough into 2 parts before rolling them out. One part goes into a glass dish. She cuts the extra bits off.

With the other section of dough, she cuts out patterns in it. Alpha turns the stove off and walks over to where Rosie is with the dough. He lets me scrape the apples into the bottom pan. Right after he washes it so it doesn't get to sticky. Rosie places the other dough on top. There's flowers, butterflies and paw print shapes on it. She puts a little bit of melted butter over the dough and sprinkles on some sugar onto it. Pretty.

The timer buzzes and Alpha Gray opens the oven and carefully takes out the chocolate cakes in there. Rosie takes a tooth pick and tests the cakes. It comes out clean. She hands him the apple pie and it gets put into the oven. The chocolate cake is put onto a rack. I guess they have to cook down before we can put it together.

The island and dishes gets cleaned while we wait. The chocolate cakes get taken out of the pans and let to cool the rest of the way. Music is put on in the background as we wait. A can of cherry pie filling is taken out and the whip cream as well. Yeah, its time to make the black forest cake.

The bottom is placed onto a plate. Whip cream put on and some pie filling on top of that. Then its repeated before the top piece is put on. The rest of the whip cream is put on top and along the sides of the cake, completing it. The last few pieces of cherries get put around the edges on top.

"That looks so good." I say excited.

"Calm down Luca. You can have a slice later alright. Lets cover it and put it in the fridge for now until after dinner ok." Rosie says with a smile. The timer goes off again.

"Alright." I sigh sheepishly. She takes the apple pie out of the oven, puts it on the rack and tuns the oven off. It needs to cool off before giving it to who I want. I can't wait I bet she will love it. I bounce around, not able to sit still for long.

"Ok Luca slow down. Its cooled down enough you can take it over to them ok." Rosie says to me holding her hands up to get me to relax a little bit. She covers the top of the pie and hands it to me. Its got a nice weight to it but not too heavy.

"Be back later." I say as I head out.

"Be safe please Luca." Rosie calls after me. I walk as fast as I can without tripping over my own feet. It doesnt take too long for me to get where I want to go. I carefully knock on the door and wait. Elora opens the door and smiles as she sees me standing there. I hold the pie out to her. She looks at me curiously as she takes the warm dish from me.

"I made a pie for you and your family. I wanted to help make you smile." I tell her with a big smile. She smiles as me.

"Your so sweet Luca thank you." She says giving me a hug.

"Your welcome. Its apple pie. Can Lexi come out to play for a while?" I ask.

"Of course." She says as Lexi pops her head out, hearing her name. We play in the yard together. I pick a flower for her and she lets me put it in her hair. She gives me a hug and kisses my cheek.
