The raw and unfiltered rage of the Denali's echoed in Catherina's ears, their furious howls tearing through the air. She desperately wanted to pacify them and assure them of Irina's safety, to inform them that it was merely an illusion she had created – but Catherina held back, knowing that the right moment had not yet come.

Catherina listened intently to conversation unfolding between Aro and Bella, yet she felt strangely calm and focused. She pondered why she had felt compelled to act earlier, and why the voice within her had taken control to save the Denali. This troubled her; while she despised the concept of death, she seldom interfered with fates that had no direct connection to her. Yet, in this moment, she had gone against her own principles. What had prompted her to intervene?

Caius' smile was like ice as he spoke, his voice cold and chilling. "Now, she has fully accepted the responsibility for her actions."

Catherina gripped her brother's hand tightly, her focus solely on the tranquility within her heart. Despite the voice in her head whispering that the danger was over, she clung fiercely to the physical connection with her brother, reluctant to let go.

Catherina's inner turmoil began to surface, eroding her sense of control. Before she could think better of it, she found herself interjecting without any consideration for consequences or logic.

Catherina let go of her brother's hand, allowing him to attempt to reason with the furious Denali sisters. "Listen to me, Tanya, Kate," Carlisle implored in a low yet firm tone. "Vengeance won't make a difference now. Irina wouldn't want you to throw away your lives. Think about what you're doing. If you attack them, we all die."

Tanya's shoulders sagged under the weight of her grief and she leaned into Carlisle, seeking solace. Kate, finally stationary, watched as Carlisle continued to speak urgently, attempting to soothe the devastated sisters.

Aro continued his conversation with the other witnesses, their opinions remaining consistent. He smiled thinly, acknowledging that they were too insignificant to even consider lying to him.

Aro suddenly appeared just inches away from Catherina, expecting a reaction but receiving none. Her blank expression betrayed no fear, eliciting a response from the ancient Volturi leader. His interest and excitement grew.

"And what of you, Catherina?" he repeated, studying her intently.

"Ah, the mockery," Catherina continued, her eyes never wavering from the leader's gaze. "Your unwavering disbelief, your desire to find a justification for my defiance. But what you're truly seeking isn't my words, but a reason to comprehend the very thing that eludes you – even after living such a long time. You seek a rationale for this perplexing situation, a explanation for that which you cannot understand."

Aro's initial instinct was to feel anger, to assert that she was wrong, but there was something about the way she looked at him that gave pause. There was no sign of defiance or intention to fight. Instead, she regarded him with a reasoned gaze, making him question his own beliefs.
