" i know you're cheating on me, you asshole. "

it was getting late. too late for adella to know that chris was safely on his way home back to their apartment in new york but it was sadly becoming the norm.

she had had a busy day and she also had her day all planned out - in and out of meetings all morning, filming at lunch for her and chris' new film and then relaxation with chris in the evening. it was all running smoothly until chris had announced at lunch that he had somewhere else to be in the evening.

adella knew something was up exactly when he mentioned it. he had been getting his lines wrong and he was fidgety whenever she would show up - warning bells were going off in her head.

it was nearing quarter to two in the morning and adella was sat on their sofa, a glass of white wine in her right hand as she stared out the big windows that covered the beautiful nightlife of the city although her thoughts were filled with the worst.

the door lock began to turn and she watched from her seat as chris stepped through the door. his hair was hidden behind a baseball cap, a poor attempt at hiding from the paps and he slipped off his shoes, rounding the corner.

"oh," he stopped in his tracks, certainly not expecting her to be awake.

"hi honey." chris muttered, leaning down to give her a peck on the cheek and he felt her jaw clench at the feeling of his beard. she smelt something strange but brushed it off immediately, thinking she was just being paranoid.

"i didn't expect you to stay out this late again." her lips were forced into a tight smile and chris sent her a similar one, "things just over-ran with the boys, sorry."

the tension between them was unbearable as adella followed him into the bedroom, taking a sip of her wine and suddenly becoming very aware of the change in smell for the second time as he removed his shirt. "chris?"

"yeah honey, give me a second." he paused, coming out of the en-suite, "actually can this wait until the morning? i'm deadbeat."

"no, it actually can't. and i'm sick of this; you coming home so late."

he scoffed and sent her a look, one that made her shiver with dread. "and you don't go out late with the girls? i'm always coming to pick you up at whatever time."

adella had began to pace, taking a big gulp of alcohol as she watched him climb into bed. "look, this isn't about me-"

"who the fuck is is about then, del? look we're just tired, let's go to bed and talk tomorrow." adella was beginning to lose her patience.

"i know you're cheating on me, you asshole."

adella has never seen chris' face go so pale. he slowly climbed out of bed and hesitantly walked towards her, "honey, what are you talking about?"

tears had began to form in her dark eyes and she gripped the glass in her hand. "don't try to deny it, chris, it will just make it worse."

"i have no idea-" a sharp slap was all that was heard in the apartment as adella's hand met chris' face.

gripping his throbbing cheek and gazing at adella's heartbroken face, he knew he had ruined everything all because of one stupid girl.

it will always be you. ( c.e. )Where stories live. Discover now
