"Ino I am not wearing that," Sakura said with flushed cheeks as she pushed the dress away. It was black and strapless, stopping midthigh with cut outs above her hips. She gave her best friend a glare; she knew Sakura would never wear anything like that, especially not to an engagement party.
Ino shook her head, her blond ponytail swaying behind her. "I don't get you Sakura. You have a nice body, why not show it off every once in a while. Besides~" she put a hand on her hip and smirked at Sakura. "I heard from Shikamaru a certain somebody was going to be there tonight."
Realization hit Sakura as she balled her fists up. "Ino. No. I don't want to see Lee, you know that. I'm done with him."
"Sakura they say he's taking the breakup really hard-"
Sakura interrupted her by laughing, or more like barking. "He's taking it hard? Funny, he wasn't taking it that hard when he called me from the hotel drunk with two girls in his bed." She stalked off towards her window, placing her palms on the windowsill and looking out at the happy couples walking on the street. Lee and her and been them, three weeks ago. But then he left town for a work committment, only to get plastered and cheat on her. He was so drunk he didn't know why there were two girls in his bed, and when he realized what had happened he had immediately started trying to call Sakura and apologize to her. But he was already blocked and shoved farther into the recesses of her mind with each spoonful of ice cream. She sighed, turned back to look at Ino as she leaned against the window.
"I really am done with him, Ino. He was one of the last people I thought would ever hurt me, and he did. I don't care that he was drunk; when you're drunk your true self can come out and if he really cared for me as deeply as he said he did, he wouldn't have brought two girls home. Not one, two. I will be civil and tolerate him for the sake of all of our friends, but I'm not going to go out of my way to even make conversation, much less make him jealous. I could care less if he thinks I'm attractive, or if the mere sight of me drives him mad." She shrugged her shoulders and made her way back to the closet, letting her hand run across the different fabrics. "I'll wear something that looks flattering but that's it. I'm not ready to try and date either, so don't get any matchmaking ideas."
Ino sighed and leaned against the doorway. "Okay okay, if it means you'll come with me, I'll stop. But the next time we go out, you're wearing that dress," she finished sternly. Sakura just giggled, letting her best friend think she had won. Her hands stopped on a dress and she picked it up. It was a pale blue with floral designs over it. She held it over herself and turned to Ino.
"What about this?" She asked, smiling as the blond let out a light gasp.
"I think it'll look great on you! Let me pull your hair up in a bun though, I think that'll make you look stunning." Sakura nodded in agreement and the two finished getting ready.
~time skip to the engagement party~
Great, Sakura sighed as she stood by the bar, swirling her drink around the glass as she looked for Ino. Her eyes finally found the blonde, making her way out of the side door with a certain raven haired artist. Sakura sat down at the bar, telling herself that she would give Ino twenty minutes before she left her here. She had already went up to Shikamaru and Temari and said her congratulations, so she was just mingling now.
Or trying to avoid mingling, as she saw a bowl cut walking towards her. She groaned and turned towards the bar, hoping he would ignore her.
"Sakura," he said softly as he sat in the stool beside her. She ignored him, staring intently at the liquid in her glass. "Sakura, I wanted to apologize to you for how things happened with us. I hope this doesn't cause a hiccup in our relationship-"
