It was a peaceful morning. The white curtains let the morning sunshine enter the room, making it brighter. Kong held the pillow tighter, as he enjoyed his sleep. He smiled in his sleep, probably having a beautiful dream. Somebody nudged his shoulder. He stirred but didn't wake up. This time he felt a harder push. He groaned and turned to the other side. He heard small footsteps reach the other side of the bed.

"Wake up, mommy!" A girl's voice said loudly. He jolted up, sitting on his bed, looking around. His eyes landed on the little one, and he gave her a big smile, gently ruffling her hair.

"But it's Sunday today," Kong mumbled, still sleepy, as he rubbed his eyes.

"I know, I know!" The girl said jumping. "But you promised to make me my favourite breakfast." She pouted. Kong chuckled, getting out of bed.

"Now did I?" Kong teased. "Okay, okay. Let me brush my teeth. Why don't you wait in the kitchen, and continue reading your favourite story book?" He suggested.

"Yes!" The girl's eyes lit up, and she scurried out of the bedroom. Kong stretched, yawning. He was tired after a long week of work, and taking care of his daughter, Thara. The nanny had taken a sick leave, so he was on his own. He swiftly brushed his teeth, not wanting to make her wait any longer. He had visible bags under his eyes, due to the lack of sleep.

"Thara, I told you not to jump on the couch!" He scolded, still keeping his voice soft.

"Sowwie, mommy." She sad back down, innocently putting the storybook on her lap, and reading.

"So what do you want to eat?" He asked putting on his apron.

"Pancakes! Lots and lots of pancakes." She said grinning, showing her pearly white teeth. Kong smiled. She was so adorable, my daughter.

Kong made her favourite pancakes with chocolate syrup, just how she liked it. He went to the fridge to get her the pink milk, that she needed every single day without fail. She took a sip.

"Yummy! Pink milk is the best thing in the world." She said dramatically.

"Eat slowly. Don't make a mess." Kong was a good parent. As much as he loved his daughter, she had to be taught the right manners. He wanted to give her every freedom, that he didn't get. He wanted to make her favourite dishes, take her out, and let her make as many friends as she wanted. He started reading the newspaper, as they both are silently.

"Mommy!" Thara said, and Kong jumped slightly.

"What is it, baby?" Kong asked, still looking into the newspaper.

"Mommy listen, listen." Kong finally looked up, knowing she wouldn't stop until he did so.

"I'll tell you a secret." She whispered, her big baby eyes shining. Kong listened intently, putting his elbow on the table, and resting his head on his palm.

"My birthday is coming soon!" She let out happily. "Now I will be a big girl! 6 years old. Then I will be allowed on those other rides in the amusement park. You will take me, right mommy?" She said all in one breath.

"Calm down," Kong said chuckling, "Yes we'll go to the amusement park then." He confirmed.

"Then I will also fight the monster under my bed! He will be scared of me." She said with determination.

Kongpob sighed. It had already been 6 years, and he didn't even realise it. He moved to US almost 7 years ago. The time flew so quickly. But he was happy like this, with his daughter. He needed no one else. Thara's birthday would've been a really happy day, only if she didn't share it with someone. With him. They had the same birthday.

"Mommy, why are you sad?" She pouted again.

"Mommy just remembered your dad. You both have the same birthday." Kong gave a half hearted smile.

"Dad? Dad is bad. I don't like him!" She huffed. "It's my birthday, I won't share it with him." She declared and crossed her arms on her chest.

"Yes, baby. It will be your day, and we'll do all your favourite things. Now let me dress you up. Your uncle Aim and aunt May will come soon." She nodded, leaving her breakfast in between as she ran to her room.

"Quick quick. I want to show Aunt May the drawing I made for her. " She was holding it in her hand, as Kong combed her hair carefully.

"It will be quicker, only if you stop moving so much." Kong said as he struggled to make her stand straight.

The doorbell rang. "They're here!" She jumped in excitement, and ran out to the front door. Kong sighed, the hair was still not done. His daughter was very naughty. He walked slowly to the door. She had already managed to open it, letting Aim and May inside.

"Uncle Hin, Aunt May! I missed you so much." She said, with her big puppy eyes.

"We missed you too, little one." May said, gently pinching her cheek.

"I love your ring, Aunt May. I want one too." She said, eyes lighting up at the sight of the beautiful diamond ring. May laughed.

"Your uncle gave it to me. One day when you get married, someone will give you a ring too." She explained, holding Aim's hand.

"Yes! I want one. I want to get married." She said excited. After a pause she continued.

"But mommy doesn't have a ring."

Kong fidgeted with his hands, "I- I'll go get some water."

..........

"Yes, please make sure they sign it as soon as possible. I'll personally hand them the contract. Not today. I'm not available today. I have to go meet my sister. Yes please take care of that." Arthit spoke into the phone.

He took a half day from his hectic schedule. Handling the management of the hospitals under him, was a tough job. He did a few surgeries, but he had mainly shifted to the business part of the hospital. Kristina worked as a teacher in a local school. To say she loved children was an understatement.

Arthit got out of the car, in front of the school, hoping to surprise her. The school was just across the road, in front of him. His phone buzzed, as he walked, and decided to take a look. He didn't notice a car, that was swiftly coming his way, has his eyes were on the screen.

"Watch out!" The voice of a kid got his attention, and he saw the car just in time, rushing to the side. He crossed the road, this time more carefully. He went up to the little girl, who had saved his life, in order to thank her.

He froze when he saw the familiar smile, the pretty chestnut eyes, and beautiful dark hair. The girl reminded him of someone, he really wanted to forget. But couldn't.

..........

AN: Did you all like this twist? Kong kept her after all. And Thara! Isn't she just adorable?

Fun fact: Thara means star, so their family has the sun, moon and star. Perfect!
