Chapter 3
December 14th, 2019."We're about to go live in one minute!" Someone called out before hurriedly walking away.
"You ready for this, Brooke?" Zane Lowe, the interviewer from BBC Radio 1, asked her.
"You know it!" She flashed him a smile, fixing up her messy blonde hair.
"Alright, here we go." He announced, the two going on air seconds later.
Zane signaled for it to start and so Stella started to strum on her guitar, playing to intro to her new song.
"I'm all in my head and out of my body. I'm not really present and that's kinda depressing, yeah. Sometimes I wake up and cry for no reason. I really hate it, I wish I could escape it. Honest to God I wish I was, somebody different on my bad days so you could only feel my love and know you're not the one that I blame. I've been going to therapy, I've been working on me. Make myself a priority, I've been working on me. For me, for you, for us. For me, for you, for us. I've been going to therapy, I've been working on me. Dealing with my shit, going deep, I've been working on me. For me, for you, for us. For me, for you, for us." Stella sang the first verse and chorus to her new song.
"What is up everyone? This is Zane Lowe on BBC Radio with the new, upcoming star, Brooke Lighterdale! That was her new song 'Therapy' that she just released yesterday." He introduced after Stella was done singing.
"Hi!" She waved out, despite no one actually being there for her to wave to beside Zane.
"Brooke, it is so good to have you on the show. I've been anticipating meeting you and getting to know you more." Zane told her, seeming genuine in his response.
"I'm so privileged to be here. I've always dreamt of being in this very spot and here I am! Isn't that crazy?" She said, laughing a little at how surreal her life had become.
"Well, you're here for a reason. I mean, you've got an amazing voice and some great songs out. In fact, you just released 'Therapy' yesterday that's going to be on your upcoming album, 'Moral of the Story.' What inspired 'Therapy'?" Zane dove right into the interview.
"Exactly the title itself, therapy. I found myself in a gutter a few months ago. My mother passed away a little over a year before that and then I found myself in two complicated relationships that I bring up quite a bit in the album. I was still pursing a different career at the time and avoiding all my problems by skipping therapy and drinking. I was a mess to say the least. I ended up moving to the city a few months ago and one of the first things I did was get a therapist because I needed to work on myself. One of the lyrics in the song says 'I wish I could make you a cardboard copy of me when I'm happy to use when I'm not.' This song is about me telling the person who I had relations with that I know how terrible I am which is why I'm going to therapy; to work on me for not only myself but for him too. I feel so bad that he put up with me for so long." Stella explained the song, not afraid to tell the truth.
"This person you talk about, are you still in contact with them?" He asked her.
"Yes and no. I saw them yesterday but they didn't know I was there. I just went to get closure but we haven't spoken at all in months. In fact, I don't think he even knows that I'm where I am now. That or he doesn't care. Could be either or both." She shrugged, laughing in order to try and avoid the feelings that were rising in her.
"Hopefully it is not the later then," Zane smiled at her. "So, what else can we expect from the album? Like how would you describe it? Any collabs going on with anyone?" Zane continued to ask questions that people were dying to know.
"The album is going to be kind of depressing, I apologize," Stella laughed. "As I mentioned, I was going through a really rough time and a lot of the songs stemmed from that time when I felt hopeless. However, there are some happier and more hopeful songs on there. Some ballads and some dancing songs. It's a variety really," Stella explained. "As far as collabs go, I have a good friend of mine joining me on a track." She confessed.
