Chapter 28: Evening Officer

"Shit" I muttered as I got off Billy. "What the hell is he doing here?"

"Gene do you know what he wants?" Billy asked.

"No" I said as I hooked my fingers around the car handle. "Let me talk to him first okay?" I said as I got out of the car. Surprisingly billy didn't fight me this time. I got out and turned to Hopper. "Even officer."

"Oh fuck its you?" He put down the flashlight and rolled his eyes. "Why is it always you?"

I shrugged. "Whats up?"

"We got a call that a camero with these plates smelled of pot"

My stomach dropped to the floor but I maintained a poker face. "Well do you smell pot"

"No" He said simply. "Tell your boyfriend to get out of the car."

I sighed and knocked on the hood. After a second Billy came out- giving the same tired look as Hopper. Maybe they would get along one day.

"You again" Hopper said angrily. "You know her cousin hates you right?" He looked at me. "Does Steve know"

"No..." I said simply. "Well kinda..."

"Kinda" Hopper echoed. "If you knew how much you kids exhausted me." He took a step back and then turned to us. "Alright- point blank do you have drugs on you? Of any kind"

I pursed my lips and shook my head. "You can search my backpack if you want."

"We both know I never find anything when I search your bag." Hopper said flatly. "Can you just promise me that I won't get another call about you tonight."

"Hopper" I said flatly. "I don't even know why you were called... we weren't smoking."

He looked at me then looked at Billy and rolled his eyes. "Are you serious?" He looked at me and began to walk forward. "Walk with me for a second."

"Hey-"

"Not now lover boy." Hopper called. As we walked he turned to me. "Are you safe"

"He isn't going to kidnap me Hopper."

"No you idiot" He gave me a look. "Safe" the way he emphasized the word met he was talking about something completely different.

I stared at him with eyes so wide that they should have fallen out of my head. "Are you serious right now?" I walked away from him with my hands in the air. "There is no way I am getting the sex talk from my fucking sherriff"

"Would you rather have it with your mother"

"Oh my lord take the wheel we weren't do that- just- yes we are safe"

He shifted, clearly uncomfortable wit the conversation. "I think someone called to prank you guys." He finally said. "if you weren't doing anything" I nodded. "then someone wanted to ruin your night."

I sighed. "I can think of someone who wants to do that."

"You piss someone off?" He asked. "Should I be worried."

"Not yet" I said. "I am handling it."

He sighed. "Don't let this come to me when its too late Gene." He took a step closer. "I don't want to see you back in the hospital again."

I nodded. "Trust me no one wants me away from that hospital more than me."

"Well that is to be debated considering-" He cut himself off and then looked to Billy. "How much does he know."

"More than I want." I said. "But I am handling it."

He nodded. "I knew I should have just gone to you that night."
