Prompt – Image from a dream

Darkness crept in
as I revved the engine
of a tattered old Chevy;
picking up sawdust
on a grey lonely road
that led to nowhere.
With blood in my hands
the steering slipped a lil'
now covered in vermillion
then covered with oblivion.
Alas, my destination
was a house I knew before,
waiting for reunions
waiting for bloodshed
waiting for death
that was to happen long ago.Glint of a knife
that was hidden inside
my broken heart and body
caught his eye;
he, who once was my life
he, who now waited to die.Death didn't scare me
for my purpose was fulfilled,
but the uncertainty
of his next move
filled me with dread.
The knife struck
with silent echoes
in crisp chilly air
river crimson flowed.
With blood in my hands
with thunder in my mind,
I looked at his lifeless body
his wide opened eyes,
hand lay out wide
for me to reach out
one final, last time. And so I complied
with dignity and shame
hoping for this to end
hoping for some relief,
yet all I got in return
was a creepy half smile
some half chewed words
"You too shall die".
They left me stunned
they let me shriek
they let me drown
in my own dark grief. All of this
was just a dream,
like a typhoon it came
like a memory it stayed,
for dreams don't die
a horrible death
they stay and lie
to your mind instead.
