The following ten months were the longest months of Ai's life.
"Training?" Ai and Midoriya were on their usual walk home from school, with Ai gripping her backpack straps and Midoriya following along.
"Yes," Midoriya exclaimed, a determined smile on his face as he balled up his fists. "For these next ten months, I'm going to work harder than ever – until UA's entrance exam!" As the excited boy unfolded most of his plan (working out, diet, and sleep schedule, with the exception of All Might's involvement), his words became tuned out in Ai's ears. All she could do was stare at her best friend, her footsteps coming to a halt. "Oh, I really hope it's not too much trouble for my mom to cook all of these things, and – huh?" Midoriya came to a stop as well, turning to face Ai who held an unreadable expression. "Ai-chan?"
A pit formed in Midoriya's stomach. Oh no, he thought. Did I say too much? Is this too suspicious? Does she know about All Might?! He was finally able to breathe upon seeing Ai's smile. "Midoriya-kun..." Ai walked until she closed the distance between the two of them, placing herself up on her tip toes as she planted a gentle kiss against the boy's cheek. Fumes escaped through his ears. "Do your best!"
It made him happy, but despite being overwhelmed with joy, all he could manage was a small stammer, "H-Hai!"
Bakugo was walking home, his school bag dangling over one shoulder as his gaze never left the darkening sky. However, before he reached his destination, he came to a stop at a playground, ears twitching at a suspicious noise that was mainly drowned out by crickets and wind. "Show yourself," he exclaimed, scanning the perimeter but seeing no one in sight, "you coward!" Eventually, Ai revealed herself from her little hiding spot behind the concrete border of the park, meeting Bakugo face-to-face. "What are you, a stalker?!"
"I-I wanted to ask you something."
"Then why couldn't you do it at school?!" Not only was Bakugo annoyed that this wasn't the first time that she's followed him here, but she couldn't even be confident in her actions! What kind of respectable person would still be this timid and shy after going for something that they want?
"I didn't want to make a scene," Ai explained, hoping that she wasn't stepping on the wrong foot. "I'm... not sure how you're going to respond to this, so I didn't want to ask with everyone else around." As Ai approached the infuriated boy, she could tell that he was getting more annoyed the longer that this was dragged on.
"You have one minute before I destroy you where you stand." Even as absurd as the threat sounded, Ai couldn't tell if Bakugo was serious or not. Nonetheless, it only made her nerves worse as she fumbled over what she was trying to say.
"W-Well, Midoriya-kun is doing his best so that... so that he can pass UA's entrance exams in February-" Hearing about the quirkless boy made Bakugo's blood boil, and normally any mention of Midoriya just made Bakugo further unreasonable.
"Thirty seconds!"
Crap, Ai thought. "And hearing him work so hard only made me want to do better too, so..."
"Five seconds!"
This countdown makes no sense! With a sudden sense of urgency, Ai exclaimed "Please!" as she bowed her head. "Train me until it's time to take UA's entrance exams!"
