A/N: There will be more filler within this story arc than the previous, but I believe that to not only be necessary but essential for Ai to further develop her relationships. I hope you're still able to enjoy reading about her journey <3

Prologue

               Run.

               Just keep running.

If you slow down, if you trip, if even you look back... He'll get you.

Even as she opened her eyes, there was nothing to see.

Ai could hear. They were the sounds of her own ragged breathing. They were the sounds of crying – a conglomerated mixture of familiar boys and girls who faded out into nothingness. They were the sounds of her best friend, calling her name over and over again; a voice she reached out to but couldn't touch.

Ai could feel. She felt the cold that encroached through the darkness, grabbing her, squeezing her, killing her. She felt the embrace of trembling arms that refused to let her go. She felt the tears that descended from others and stained her face, accepting the fact of her inevitable demise.

From her laying position to her feet, she began running. Where was she going in this dark? Where was the end? She followed the muffled voices that paved her path. "Who are you," she said. They continued their slur of incoherent words, oblivious to her questions. "What are you saying?" She felt desperate as she reached out with both body and mind to the intangible being that was her only source of hope. "Where are you?"

A hand reached out and gripped the back of her shirt. The abruptness put her on edge. She didn't want to be stopped. She felt she shouldn't be stopped. Her body struggled against the stranger's grasp, and that's when it multiplied. Her arms, her legs, her throat... It was a persistent force that captured her from behind. She couldn't fight it. She couldn't call out. She couldn't even breathe. Her body felt as light as a feather, as if her trapped extremities were turning to ash.

Help. Her thoughts were meek, but they seemed to be echoing throughout her surroundings. Somebody help me... Her mouth opened in order to scream, but she only felt herself choke up more. Please... It hurt to stay awake. Maybe if she slept, then the pain would go away...

               Forever.

"Ai-chan." The sudden voice was so close yet so far, but she needed sleep. She couldn't handle this pain anymore.

"Don't give up." Who is this? Why couldn't he just let her go? However, despite her frustration, she was drawn to the voice. It gave her strength.
