One day you might have it all together
the next day it has fallen apart
you must not let that stop you
pick yourself back off the ground

" We can't let people in at night." A man said from the other side of the fence.
" It's just me and my boy." I pleaded.
" Ma'am--" He started but I interrupted him
"Please. I just want to get him somewhere safe."
The man went silent for a moment before the door slowly opened. He sighed and shook his head. "Alright. Come in quickly. I don't want to get into even more trouble than I already am."
I take Gabriel's hand and walk into Northbridge.
" Name." The man demanded.
" Alesta and Gabriel Angelsen."
"Can you spell your first and last name for me?"
"A-l-e-s-t-a and A-n-g-e-l-s-e-n."
"Alright. I've got it." He said writing in a book.
"Do you need me to spell Gabriel's name?"
"No. Mother and son, correct?"
"That's right."
He looked at me. "How old are you?"
" I have long forgotten that. Little Gabe here is eight though."
The gatekeeper looked me up and down. "You look awfully young to have an eight-year-old."
" Adoption."
The man looked at Gabriel with pity filled eyes." My name is Jonah. I am a guard, so if you need anything please let me know. "
"We will," I promised.
When we walked into the village nobody was walking around but the guards. It was the complete opposite of the last town, which was bustling with people. I look up at the stars.
" Gabriel, look up," I said.
He looked up and didn't question me.
" Look at the stars. They are always there no matter where we go. Aren't they beautiful? They make you feel like you are not alone."
Gabriel smiled at me." Come on mama, let's find somewhere to stay."
I looked at him, " You are such a smart little boy. Let's go." I said taking his hand and walking to the buildings, trying to find an inn to stay at.
By the time we found one I was carrying Gabriel in my arms. I knocked on the door. An older lady opened it visibly tired, but when she looked at us she smiled.
"Hello miss, are you looking for a room?"
"Yes, do you have any available. My son is tired."
"Your son."
"Yes."
She looked at the little bundle in my arms, then at me like she couldn't figure out how he is my son, but didn't say anything about it.
"We have one last room. New guards from the capital came and took all of the other rooms. If it continues like this I will need someone to help me."
I looked at her hopefully, "Me and my boy have been looking for a job. I can help if you want."
"Oh, you are a blessing. I will show you the ropes in the morning at dawn. Let's get you to bed, you look exhausted."
