Attempts

Chapter 1

Packing isn't my favorite thing to do. I would take ages to get myself out of the sofa just to get the suitcases out and my friend\roommate Ava wasn't making it easy on me.

"I don't know what the fuzz is in Surfing. Todd makes it seems like nothing can out stand it. Even though it's not that good. What happened to relaxing and taking a tan under the sun in the beach. Emma are you even listening?!" said the most annoying friend ever complaining about going to her trip to Florida with her boyfriend Todd.

"Yes, I am listening to you"I said while looking at myself in the mirror. My petite self with my long wavy brown hair that I inherited from my mother and green eyes that I got from my father.

"Just get up and start packing your plane to Seattle is leaving in a couple of hours and I won't let you be late" snapped Ava

"Alright Alright I am going" That was the push that I needed to get up and start to do the most thing I resent.

This year has been one of the heaviest so far. I didn't get too much sleep and studied 24/7. It was hectic with all the stress and breakdowns that were in the way. I can say that we really do need this timeout, just a quality time to relax.

Upon reaching the airport, I went to check in and enter the gate. Ava didn't come with me as she knows how much I hate the goodbyes plus I will see her in a couple of months.

Going back home is something that I am not excited for.

Being an only child and both parents working day and night is not what I am looking forward to.

When my plane reached Seattle grounds and I finally took my luggage I wasn't surprised to see Sam ,the driver, waiting for me with a huge smile.

"Well Sam long time no see" I said hugging him

"If you really missed me young lady you would have called" he said while placing my 2 big suitcases in the car.

Sam was an old man who was like my second father, he was always there for me from teaching me how to ride a bike to drive a car.

After some quiet time, I had to ask the same question that I know the answer of it by heart "Where is mom and dad?"

"They were coming but had to go to the hospital the last minute. Terrible accident had occurred dear"he said not looking into my eyes.

Am I surprised?No

Disappointed?Totally No

Even though Its not new for them not to come but something in me always makes me ask. There job as doctors will always come first. Wishing for a different answer. Something to make me feel important to them.

Upon entering the 2 story mansion, Everything was just the same except for the new antique pieces that mom bought from the yearly auction.

My room was just the way that I left it with the purple walls and white curtains. My dressing room hasn't been touched and my story that I left without finishing before leaving for college laid on the bedside table. The posters of my favorite band is still on the wall even though my mom said that she will tear them down while I am gone.

"Ohh look at you" came the voice of the best woman in my life Sophia, the only maid in the house and the one who raised me, from behind "Your mother can't see you wearing this shirt you lady" talking about my plain white sweatshirt.

"I am fine and the plane was good. No problems. Thank you for asking and by the way I missed you too" I said laughing while giving her a hug.

"Dear you look good so I didn't have much to ask but I really missed you a lot. You don't know how awful the house is without you talking and laughing around" she said while dragging my bags inside the room

"How's little Lucy and Katie?"

"My grandchildren are fine a troublemakers but fine. You know they are starting school the next year"

"They grow up fast, don't they?" I said lifting the suitcase with her and starting packing together while remembering the day that I first saw those two in their tiny blankets covering them from cold and their big eyes watching me as I was afraid holding them.

"They do. They are asking about auntie Emma a lot " Those two princesses are the most adorable twins.

"I promise to come and visit those two soon"

After a shower and small nap, it is the time for dinner which is always filled with disappointment since I was a young girl. It was like a rule in our house that I am going to eat dinner alone all week except for Saturday ,their only time off, and I guess this time it is no exception.

So guess what the house is empty, the 12 seated dinner table is vacant.

I am going to spend my first night in Seattle home alone.

I shouldn't be surprised as this is the normal but I still had this slight hope that this year would have been different.

So I just entered the spacious kitchen to get a plate of home made pasta and chicken rolls "my favorite" and a can of cola diet ,as a girl has to look out for her weight, and then went out again to eat in front of the TV.

I sat comfortably on the grey sofa and placed my food on the yellow table, watching Friends on the big screen.
