My mind was going crazy about my parents behavior. Its wheels had continued to turn as I really want to know whats going on. Their situation is only getting worse and worse.
A week later, I finally discovered the reason which turned my life upside down.
"Ava it does look gorgeous on you" I said holding the phone against my shoulder , the shopping bags in the other hand , and trying to open the front door at the same time
"No it makes me look fat. How could you not see it. Maybe its the camera"
"You know that you don't have an ounce of fat to show right" I said laughing as I entered the house, I found both my parents shouting from the inside.
"Ava I have to go I will call you later"I said hanging up and going to the direction of the sound but something I heard made me stop in the middle of the hall without entering the living room
"You have a child from her" came the voice of my mother.
"You knew about that marriage a long time ago. Don't act that surprised" it sounded like my dad.
"I knew and kept quiet for my dear Emma, but a child is beyond the line"
she continued "All I asked for is another year so Emma would understand our point of view"
"The child came by accident but I couldn't go with abortion. He is my son"
"He is 10 years old . How could you not say anything all that time even to me"
"I don't want to be a bad guy in Emma's eyes"
That was all I heard before the shopping bags fell from my hands making a sound that made both of them turn to me.
Next thing I found myself running back outside and into my car with both my parents shouting my name behind me.
I didn't know where I would go. All I wanted is to be away from them.
Few hours later I found myself parked in a place that I don't know, The sky is raining hard and my tears are raining with them. I tried to find a good explanation for my parents hiding the truth from me and found none.
I wasn't scared from the place that looked abandoned with the street light flicking due to the rain that gets heavier and heavier as I was scared from going home and facing my parents. I know that eventually I will have to face them and hear my parents, but the problem is I need some time to digest what I heard.
My phone kept ringing all the way from home. to this place but I didn't even have the energy to see who.
After some time I found the courage to look at the clock to find it 2 AM ,so I decided to head home and face them. Its now or now as I have no other place to go.
Every step I took towards the house is heavier than the previous one. I am dreading the moment that I will enter the house.
I found Sophia opening the door before even knocking it, with relief in her eyes.
She hugged me before saying anything covering me with a blanket "Your parents are waiting for you in the living room. We have been worried sick" without another word I headed there as I know that its time to face them.
I found my father looking out the window with a scotch in his hand ,a habit he does when he gets nervous or mad, and mom was sitting on the sofa her mind is in God knows where.
Both of them turned to look at me with guilty eyes, hesitant to speak
"I came and I am ready to listen to your explanations" I decided to break the silence.
"We really didn't want you to find out that way" my mother began.
"It doesn't matter the most important thing is that I found out" For the first time I found both my parents looking speechless with nothing to say.
"When did that begin?" I decided to start from somewhere.
" When you were 5 years old" replied my dad. Wow that's a really long time ago.
"Remember the accident when you fall into the water in the camp" said my mom. Of course I remember it I almost drown. Its the reason that made me afraid of swimming and anything that includes sea and pool.
"Our fights from that night of who is responsible made us reach that point"said dad.
"That doesn't make any sense. How could an accident that none of you is the reason behind it makes you reach that point"
"Emma we didn't tell you but we were arranged married. We didn't love each other." Said my mom
"Our parents made that deal as they were best friends and wanted to union both families. They made us leave our partners to marry each other. We just did it to make them happy and proud" said dad
"That accident was all it took to trigger us into fighting. Things went down hill. We couldn't continue. We decided to get a divorce in secrecy and stay with each other in public until you grow up and ready to understand what we were going through" said mum with teary eyes.
"Why didn't I know that before. I would have understand"
"We didn't want to make you feel as a mistake or that we don't love you. We were afraid that we would lose you, and you were so young we couldn't have put you through custody and divorce. we were going to drop some hints along the way so you won't be surprised when we do tell you, but we didn't think that you will know that soon" said dad while holding my hands and gazing at me.
I believe them that they didn't have an option but to get married because of their parents, knowing both my grandparents the most strict people on earth, but they could have told me sooner instead of lying to me.
"I have to go up to my room and sleep it off" That was the last thing that I said before turning in my heels and going to the other side without giving any of them a time to say another word.
Even though I had no energy to even open my eyes, I kept tossing for 3 to 4 hours with no sleep. So I decided to get up and start my day.
As I do my morning routine I can't help but think about last night and I knew right away that I have to get out of here, out of this house and this country and go away to give my mind time to think.
