"Your dad" I whispered quietly and I was hoping that he couldn't hear me but apparently he has good hearing. "WHAT?!" he screamed. "Okay, there was a reason why I closed the front door Ash and it's because I didn't want him to see you.
But I definitely think he heard you and your loud mouth. I'm pretty sure the entire state of Kentucky heard you. Remind me when we go to the store tomorrow to purchase duck tape" I say to him as I drag him away from the door.
Let me rephrase that, as I TRY to pull him away from the door. This dude wouldn't budge. I don't think he moved an inch and I don't think I'm that weak.
After about five minutes of me pushing him away from the door using my entire body, I decided to take a breather. But I guess I decided at the wrong time to do that because Ashton's dad started banging on the door.
"Nobody's home!" I screamed and Ashton looked at me like I was a killer clown running around with a baseball bat screaming "HAPPY BIRTHDAY". It took me a second to realize why he was looking at me like that.
"What? It wasn't like I was invisible when I answered the door, he knows someone's here" I said pointing to the door. "If he already knew you were hear then why did you talk?" he asked raising his eyebrows. "Well I didn't appreciate the fact that he was about to break down my door" I said whisper screaming.
He shook his head and looked to the door. After a minute of silence I decided to speak. "Do you think he left?" I asked, putting my hand on the back of his neck to relax him. I knew that this had to take some sort of toll on him.
To me he's a very strong person. He proved that to me when he first told me about his dad. For him to be standing here, nearly ten feet from his dad, shows that he's twice as strong as I am or anybody I know for that matter.
I could tell he relaxed because his face softened a little but his shoulders were still tense and his fists were still balled. I hated seeing him so tense because I got a chance to see the goofiness on the inside no matter how serious he seemed on the outside.
"No, he isn't gone yet. He wants you to think that he's gone" he said and you could see the anger building up inside him as he pronounced every word. "Is your back door locked?" he asked and he looked down at me. My eyes widened and he took that as the answer 'no'.
We both ran towards the back door and just as we got there the door handle started turning. Ashton speed walked quietly up to the door and locked it, making the locking sound from the door echo out in the silent house. "He didn't hear that did he?" I asked squinting my eyes hoping that his dad didn't hear it.
"I don't think-" but Ashton got interrupted by banging on the door. "Okayyy he definitely heard that" I whispered. "Come on" he whispered to me and gestured for me to follow him as he made his way towards the stairs. I decided not to ask why and just follow him.
When we got to the top of the stairs he grabbed my hand and pulled me towards my bedroom. I furrowed my eyebrows but continued to let him lead me. We got to my room and Ashton closed the door behind us. He walked over to my window and slowly slid it open making sure to be as quite as possible.
He opened up his window and then turned back around to look at me. "Come on" he whispered and I walked over to the window. He put his hands on my waist and lifted me up to help me onto the windowsill.
I didn't understand why he did this because he's seen me jump up on the windowsill before yet he still wanted to help me up. I didn't say anything about it and one of the main reasons why is because his touch felt warm and I always felt something when he touched me. I never really realized it until now but I pushed it aside until later.
