[Chapter 14 - The Regrettable Decisions]
✰ ✰ ✰ ✰ ✰
Genevieve woke up the next morning hot and sweaty, reaching up to brush her hair out of her face, only to find a strong arm draped along her abdomen, holding her. Rolling on to her side, Genevieve gasped lightly as she saw who was lying next to her.
"What on earth happened last night?" she thought, carefully pushing up the covers and heading to the bathroom, a sparse sip of silk covering her body.
As she got ready for the day, Genevieve rattled through her hungover brain, trying to remember how she ended up sleeping with Severus. All she could remember was dancing with him at the Yule Ball, and then heading back up to her room. Glancing down at the bruises developing on the inside of her thighs, made it clear to her that they did more talk last night.
After applying a cold salve on the tender flesh, Genevive brushed out her tangled hair, tying it back into a french braid and securing it with a small daisy clip. Not having time for a shower, she used a bit of wandless magic to cast the cleaning spell across her body. Genevieve grabbed a pair of trousers that lay across the armchair in the hallway, putting on a loose, flowing blouse to match the emerald green suit trousers, pairing the outfit with a pair of black heels.
Slowly creeping back into her bedroom, she froze as Severus groggily rolled over in the bed, his dark locks splayed across his face. Once he settled, Genevieve quickly grabbed her wand off the side table and headed towards the door. Taking a quick glance back, making sure Severus was still asleep, Genevive left her quarters, heading down to the great hall for an early breakfast, leaving her time to prepare for her afternoon classes.

Around half an hour after Genevieve had sat down at the staff table, Severus entered the hall, his long black cape billowing behind him, a snarky look plastered on his face. As he sat down, Genevieve glanced in his general direction, guilt in her eyes as they locked sights, Severus's cold expression killing her slowly.
On the other side of the table, Severus shut himself off from the rest of the ambience of the great hall. He was trying to figure out his emotions that clouded his mind. He couldn't understand why Genevieve left him that morning, was his move last night a mistake, did she have regrets?
The tension between them was almost unbearable, Minerva and Albus shared looks of concern, possibly conversing about their plan later in the evening. Yet before either could ask the conflicted couple what had happened, the final bell rang.
Genevieve dashed out of the hall, unable to bear the harsh glares of Severus any longer. He too did the same, leaving the rest of the professors very confused.
"I think it's time to pay up Albus, you were wrong," McGonagall whispered, finishing up the last of her pumpkin juice.
"Not yet, they'll sort it out, " he replied confidently.
"But you saw them, they've already had a fight, they won't last," McGonagall argued.
"Ah, but that's where you're wrong Minerva, they just need a push in the right direction."

Genevieve walked down a desolate part of the castle, a cold breeze igniting a shiver down her back. It had just turned half nine, a storm raging outside the walls of the castle. Just as she was rounding another corner, a flock of black crows frightened her half to death.
"If this is some sort of a joke, it's not funny, " Genevieve called out into the darkness, not expecting a reply.
"This is the last time I follow directions from a note." she thought, eventually reaching the classroom the mysterious letter sent her to.
As she entered the abandoned space, the door slammed behind her, causing her to jump in shock. Genevieve tried to open it but to no avail. It seemed as if it was locked from the outside.
"Great, simply spectacular." she huffed, her back against the door as she surveyed the blackened area.
Slumping onto the ground, Genevieve used her wand, casting a strong "Lumos Maxima" to illuminate her surroundings. What she wasn't anticipating, was the tall man already waiting at the back of the room. Putting two and two together, Genevieve quickly sat up, annoyed that he was wasting her time in such a manner.
"You! " she pointed her wand directly at his chest, " you set this all up, didn't you?" she insinuated.
"Why would I set something like this up, you're the one who walked out on me." Severus lashed back, think back on this morning, using his height to push her back.
"I only walked out because it was a mistake!" Genevieve didn't even realise what she had said until she saw the hurt on Severus's face.
That stab at the heart confirmed his suspicions about their interactions.
"Oh, I didn't mean it like that, I'm-" she tried to apologize but Severus cut her off, each of his words cutting into her heart.
"Don't; you've already done enough."
"Severus, please, " Genevive pleaded with him, grabbing his arm in hopes of stopping him from storming off.
He quickly turned around, his eyes full of bitterness and regret, backing Genevieve against the wall.
"You're right, everything was a mistake, the dance, the sex, everything was just a massive mistake!"
"I'm sorry I ever had feelings for you or gave you the wrong impression of me. Just forget any of this ever happened, " After a few moments of silence, Severus left, the door conveniently unlocked.
It took a few moments for Genevive to realize what had happened, shouting down the corridor, " I didn't mean it, Severus, you're the best thing that ever happened to me!"
When no reply came, Genevieve knew she messed up, oh she messed up badly. Then the tears came flooding out. Her eyes clouded over, crumbling onto the ground as she cried her heart out, after finally finding a man she adored, she sent him running.
"I love you, " she mumbled over her tears.
Genevieve ended up crying herself to sleep that night, Severus drowned his sorrows in whisky, both languishing to sleep with thoughts of the other.
