Chapter 12

I look down at our hands. 'Is this really happening right now? I mean we are both 18 so it is legal, and I truly do love him with everything that I am.' I think about everything we have been through and everything we have done everything together. He is my best friend and I know I want to spend the rest of my life with him, but is it to soon? I mean come on we are seniors in high school.

"Riley... your kind of making me nervous."

I slowly look up into Nik's eyes. I take a deep breath and let it out slowly. I love making him fidget so I'm going to take my time. 'Nik... I don't know what to say... I mean I love you I really do...but..." I sign. He looks down sadly. "YES!!!" I say out loud.

He snaps his head up. "What"

"I'm... saying..." I say hoarsely. Finally my mom gives me some water. "Nik I'm saying Yes!!"

"Yes to which question" he asks with so much hope in his eyes.

I smile at him. " I'm saying yes to homecoming." I am mean because I am making him wait for the other yes. He wants that answer more than anything.

"And what about the other question? I mean it would be up to you when we got married, just as long as I get to call you my wife one day. And we don't have to tell anyone..."

I cut him off. "Nikoli William Freeman...it would be my pleasure to marry you."

"Is that a yes?" He looks at me confused.

I smile and kiss him passionately. "Yes!"

He digs into his pocket and pulls out a beautiful vintage engagement ring. He puts it on my finger then picks me up for a kiss. He twirls me around. "Ok, ok. Put me down dork!!! Everyone cheers. They all come up and congratulate us. 'Can we still sign sometimes?' I ask in sign language.

"Yes we can." He says with a smile. He kisses me sweetly.

The next 3 weeks go by so fast. Its Friday and I got the call that my prosthetics are ready. I didn't tell Nik cause I wanted it to be a surprise for homecoming. So Ashley and Michael decided to go with me to the appointment. My parents actually thought it would be a good idea cause they wouldn't be at the dance and having more people know how to help me would be best. "Hey Ash, do you and Brittany wanna go dress shopping with my mom and I tomorrow?"

"Umm.. is that a hard question? The answer is yes! We have been waiting till you were better so we could all go together." She says happily.

"Sweet I will let mom know. I have got to find a dress that looks good with the legs. This is going to be such a big surprise for Nik."

"I'm sure he will love whatever you wear." Michael says. "You could wear a burlap sack and he still would find you beautiful."

I blush "Shut up. So who are you taking Michael?"

His face turns bright red. "Umm...I'm taking Brit."

"That's exciting. And let me guess, Ash you're going with Brent?"

"Guilty. He asked me last weekend."

"That's so exciting. I always thought you would make a cute couple. You too Michael. I'm so happy for you both."

"Well we are happy for you and Nik. I cant believe your engaged and in high school." Ashley says.

"Riley Reynolds..." The nurse calls out.

Ashley and Michael get up and Michael wheels me following the nurse. She leads us into the room. When she leaves I turn back to Ashley. "I cant believe he asked me. I thought he would wait until graduation seeing how we are going to the same college and everything."
