"There has got to be something good coming out of this right?"

This has been a question I have been asking myself  a lot lately. Frankly, it's hard to see anything good coming out of this global pandemic, but there are somethings out there that are positive.

I decided to make a list:

1. Unity.

A majority of individuals and even countries are  now going through similar situation. While it is a negative one, the unity between people and nations is quite beautiful. We are putting differences aside and focusing on a common goal.

2. Appreciation for others.

Many people are appreciating their families, friends, and homes more than ever. Healthcare professionals and essential workers are being celebrated for the heroes they are in keeping us safe and keeping society working. Now is the time to be thankful for what we have.

It is a  wake up call that was needed, just not the way we may have wanted it to happen.

3. Advancement.

This pandemic will contribute immensely to our knowledge for another outbreak and within the community of epidemiology. Much like how SARS and MERS helped with the development of identifying and assessing the current situation, COVID-19 will help with a future Coronavirus outbreak.

4. Resourcefulness.

People are finding ways to use stuff they own in new ways and by trying new things at home. Healthcare professionals and scientists are trying to find new ways to reuse and sterilize masks.

5. Reduction in carbon emissions.

Due to a lack of air travel, carbon emissions have gone down immensely giving our environment a well needed break.

6. Public hygiene and awareness.

Personally, I am happy that people are becoming much more aware of washing their hands and proper conduct when sick. More people are staying home when sick, and properly washing their hands.

I hope this list cheered you up a bit, and stay tuned for some more updates if you want.

Stay safe and let's give a big thank you to essential workers and healthcare professionals!
