"Boo!" Dohwa grabs Dano's shoulders, nearly throttling her in his violent shake. She screams, thrashing and tearing out of his grip. He bursts out laughing. He stumbles onto the seat next to her, grinning like an idiot. "I... did you see your face? Oh my—I got you so bad."

Dano scowls. She glares at him through the corner of her eye, closing her notebook, "That wasn't funny."

"I wish I took a picture."

She feels like blurting Do you have a death wish? like it's an old habit. But it's funny—she has never said that to anyone before.

Dohwa lays his head onto the table, his arm supporting his neck. They're sitting at a table outside. The breeze draws autumn leaves out of dark spots beneath trees, tossing them into adventurous winds. Students walk the campus; alone or with friends, lounging in groups on the field chattering, or sitting at tables and benches finishing work.

A guy passes far away, ducking beneath the low branch of a tree and making for the grand entrance of the right wing. He's more than fifteen feet away, but he turns and looks at Dano at the same time her gaze lands on him. It's Gyeong.

He stops in his tracks. He waves at her.

For a moment Dano is caught off-guard, but she waves back, smiling weirdly. She sees the grin on his face, before he continues his journey into the building.

"Whoa," Dohwa says, drawing Dano's attention.

"W-What?"

"What was that?" Dohwa drawls. A devilish smile twists his features. "Who is that guy? Is he possibly, hm... someone you like?"

Dano starts to protest but stops suddenly. She blinks. She thinks about the strange, recurring noise, like a page flipping; her forced movements the first time she met Baek Gyeong; the way he smiled at her and made her smile, gripping her hand tightly... she is confused. Does someone want her to like Gyeong? Or something?

Is it fate that brought her to him?

At last, she doesn't know how to answer. She contemplates, "I don't know."

Dohwa wiggles his eyebrows, "You don't know?"

"I don't know," she repeats. "I feel... weird lately." She whirls to face Dohwa, eyes wide. "Am I weird?"

He blinks. He stares at her like he's trying to make sense of her words, "A-Are you... weird? Weird how?"

"I don't know. I just feel different. I think I have amnesia or something."

"Amnesia?"

"Maybe I should call my Dad."

"Yeah—yeah!" Dohwa exclaims, gesturing wildly at her. His eyes brim with worry and alarm. "If you have amnesia, you should definitely call—"

KRRCHK.

Dano's eyes snap open. She is standing under the big tree that she always sees in the University courtyard, now abundant with orange and deep red leaves. Saemi is on her right, a notebook and pen in hand. Her back rests against the tough bark of the tree.

"I think the colour scheme here is perfect. What do you think?" Saemi says.

What are you talking about? Dano wants to demand. Instead, she mutters, "Uh— y-yeah... s-sure."

Mentally, Dano frowns at herself. She can't say two words without breaking into such a hopeless stutter?

Has she always been like this?

"Great," Saemi replies, and scrawls something into her notebook.

Three campus girls trudge their way under the tree, in front of Saemi and Dano. The strangers' gossip flies loudly into their ears.

"...so hot."

"He's totally my type."

"Tall, handsome, rich, and have you seen his eyes? Obviously, you'd have to be an idiot for him to not be your type."

They pass.

Dano says, without this thought having ever entered her head—out of nowhere—randomly —she asks, "...w-who are they... um... talking about, anyway?"

"They're probably talking about Haru," Saemi informs in a compliant tone.

Haru. Haru?

"Ohh," Dano breathes meekly, staring down at her notebook again. She's written something there, it's definitely her handwriting, but what the hell has she written? 'Trees' and 'ground'. That's what she's written.

And what is that supposed to mean?

Saemi snorts suddenly, and Dano is forced to look up at her, "If you ask me, that Haru guy is nothing special. Sure, another handsome face. Who needs one more of those? There's no way a spoilt brat like is anything more than an asshole, you know what I mean?"

"Ouch. A little rude, don't you think?"

The hairs on the back of Dano's neck stand up. She and Saemi both turn to look over their shoulders, and they find him—Haru—standing behind them.

Right there.

He is wearing something different today. A navy blue sweater.

Saemi just stares at him, "No, I don't think it's rude. It's my opinion, based on experiences I've had in the past with other people very much... well, like yourself.

Haru scoffs faintly. His lips tug into a smile as he eyes Saemi, "Didn't your mother teach you if you have nothing nice to say, don't say it?" He hasn't looked at Dano once since he appeared.

"No, actually. My mother taught me the art of logic. She taught me bravery and truthfulness and cunning."

Haru studies her for a long moment, "You better watch your mouth, Logic."

Saemi stares back at him.

WWHHS.

Dano gasps, like she's been holding her breath. She might as well have been. She doesn't know what's going on, but it takes up a damn whole ton of her energy.

"I didn't ask for your opinion," Saemi answers, still talking to Haru.

Dano whirls around to face them—and finds Haru staring straight at her. His expression isn't puzzled or irritable. Just curious. His eyes are soulful and they feel familiar in a way that Dano has never felt in a person before.

But she doesn't have time for that.

"Hey, Saemi—excuse me," she taps Saemi's shoulder. Saemi turns to look at her, for a second startled. "Sorry about... um... this. I'm not sure what this is. I don't even know why I'm here. But I have to go now. Okay?"

"I... um.... okay," Saemi frowns. And Dano leaves the scene. Maybe it's her imagination, but she feels an intense gaze burning holes into her back, as she hurries away in her heeled a boots. She hears behind her, Saemi's voice. "Wow, Dano. Who knew she could talk without that awful stutter of hers?"

And another, deeper voice: "Her name is Dano?"
