I woke up too early so I decided to run around the neighborhood to put my body on the game mode. I was in a good mood. I'm confident that I'll win today's game, not until I returned home and saw a face that I never wished to see again.
"Why are you here?"
"Tristan! Is that how you talk with your mom?!" Dad yelled at me again but I ignored him and continued to walk up to my room. He followed me, grab my shirt, and pulled me down the stairs. My shoulders hit the walls and I felt a sting on my foot.
"We sent you here to know some manners but I guess three years didn't help. Don't you know how to respect your parents?!"
I hate this. "Parents?! You call yourself a parent, Dad? I don't think you deserve to be treated like one."
"You?!" He punched me, no, I willingly received the light punch of this old man. "I'm still your dad!"
"Hah. Three years ago, you decided to remarry just a month after my mom died. Then you sent me here to grandma's house and left me with what? Money? You never thought of what I feel. You never asked if I'm okay. You never treated me like your own son but now you're telling me to show you some manners? Respect?!"
I wiped the blood on my lips. "If you don't mind, I still have a game to win."
I went up to my room and suppressed the pain on my foot by putting in some ointments and bandages. I put on my uniform and brought my bag.
I went out without even saying goodbye to those people claiming to be my parents. Don't let it bother you, Tristan! You have to focus on the game! This is your last game, kaya umayos ka!
They say that it's just mind over matter so I also tried to suppress the pain by thinking I'm okay.
30 minutes before the start of our event, I received a call from Aelia.
"Napatawag ka?"
"Sa anong event ka nga kasali, Tree? Running, right?"
"Ah, oo. Nasa running events ako. Middle distance."
"Ah~! Okay-okay! Sige, magsisimula na rin ang game namin eh. Bye! Kaya mo yan, Tree! Bibigyan kita ng reward kapag nanalo ka!"
"Anong reward? Di ko kailangang----" Tch. Did she just cut me off? Hah.
"Tristan, handa ka na ba?"
"Opo, coach."
"I know you want to win this event to make up for your loss last year. This is also your last in middle school events but please, don't force yourself. You've done great things for this team. The medal is just a bonus, Tristan."
