After 7 years, I finally became a full-fledged doctor and so I took the chance to present both my license and a ring to her. Yes, that's how I proposed to her. The following year, we got married and started building our own family in a simple and relaxing house in the countryside.
Aside from our individual professions as a doctor and teacher, we also decided to build a small clinic, for me to have a weekly consultation for the less fortunate residents near us.
We struggled at first but our family and friends supported us so we're able to extend help to more people. Five years had passed, we're still able to maintain a happy and honest environment, for us, and for our kid. Yes, it's been five years since she gave birth to a healthy boy which we named, Noah.
"Mooooooom!!! Dad didn't give me the chance to win again!" Noah called out to her mom after losing a tic-tac-toe game against me.
"Noah, that's life, son. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. Let's just try again, okay?" I said and gave him another piece of paper.
"No~! Daddy, I hate you!"
"Noah." Aelia came out from the kitchen, holding a tray with freshly baked cookies on it. She placed the tray on the table and talked to our kid in a kind yet firm voice. "Listen to mommy, okay? What would you feel if mommy will say those words to you? Like I will say, I hate, Noah."
Noah sniffed. "I'll be sad."
"Right? So you want daddy to feel sad, too?"
"No~but he wouldn't let me win, mom. I want to win too."
"Okay, I guess we just need to stop playing first and have a cookie break. Mommy will play with you later, okay?" She smiled at Noah and when our son went to eat cookies, she shot me a glare.
Aelia lightly hit my back. "Hon, what are you doing? Why don't you just give him a chance to win? You're against your 5-year old son, you don't have to be competitive."
I held her hand as we sat on the couch. "Hon, I can't do that. Sabi niya kapag nanalo siya, you'll sleep with him tonight, without me. So, no. I won't let that happen."
"Oy, Hon. Anak mo kaya yang pinag-uusapan natin. Hindi mo kailangang magselos ng ganyan. And besides, wala naman siyang kalaro kaya pagbigyan na natin."
"Then why don't we give him a playmate? Another son would be good." I smiled at her.
This 34-year-old wife of mine blushed like a teenager. I chuckled and pulled her close to me.
"Shall we start tonight, hon?" I said after kissing her pink lips. "Ako na ang bahalang magpatulog kay Noah mamaya."
"Hon--?!" I silenced her with a kiss.
"I love you," I said and joined Noah in the kitchen.
