She woke up after four years of sleeping in the hospital. She decided to immediately start her rehabilitation and that, we also seldom see each other. We didn't even have the luxury of time to talk about us.
Yes, we're there for each other and I can clearly see that we are special in each others' eyes but it won't hurt to put a certain label, right? Yet, I don't want to be in a rush. She's focusing on her treatment and I'm in my critical year of being a medical student.
Another year had passed between us. She successfully finished her treatment and was able to move normally than before while I became a licensed nurse.
It's six o'clock in the afternoon when I went out of the hospital after a 12-hour duty. Aelia was waiting outside the hospital's pharmacy.
"Oy, anong ginagawa mo dito?" I asked in my tired voice.
"Ah, bumili lang ako ng vitamins tapos naalala kong 6 pm yung out mo kaya nagbakasakali lang ako na makita kita rito. Hehe."
"Oh? Okay. Buti naman at hindi mo nalilimutang inumin ang mga gamot mo."
"Siyempre naman. Ayoko namang maging pabigat eh. It's the least that I can do."
I know that she felt bad about the fact that her relatives and I took our time and effort to take care of her for 4 years. She wants to make up for that by trying her best to be in good condition.
"Uuwi ka na?" I asked and she nodded. "Hatid na kita."
"Pero pagod ka na di ba? Kaya ko namang umuwi ng mag-isa."
"Aelia, pagod na nga ako kaya huwag ka ng kumontra pwede? Ihahatid na kita. Period."
"O--okay."
We went to the parking lot and looked for my car. Sa sobrang pagod ko yata, medyo nakalimutan ko na kung saan ko naipark ang sasakyan ko.
I found it near the exit of the hospital's chapel. I opened the door beside the driver's seat and waited for her to get in. Before I went in my car, Bella, my colleague, came running to me holding a small paper bag. I received it and said my thanks, smiling at her.
While driving, Aelia was quiet. Hay, alam ko na yata ang iniisip niya.
"Aren't you going to ask me about the paper bag?" I asked and she's surprised. "I've known you for 11 years now, Aelia."
"Okay, fine. I wanted to know about that girl who gave you that paper bag. Masaya ka na?"
I stopped the car beside the park. "Why do you want to know?" I asked, facing her.
"Because I'm curious."
I smiled. "Curious? Lang? Or is it because you're jealous?"
