Alan and Christine returned home later that day. Christine could tell how confused her mate was about the whole situation because she was feeling his guilt and discomfort. She knew he was feeling guilty because the both men in question were his nephews and they all deserved a chance at love and being the person that he is, she was certain he had promised to help Hugh bring his mate to him thinking that it was Hailey but now he realizes it isn't her, he has no idea what to do.
Taking a deep breath, she joins her mate on the couch where he has been quietly sitting since they got back from Roy's place. She placed her hand on his and he immediately entwined their fingers.
"I understand how you feel," she quietly said.
"It's not as easy as I thought. They're all affected by this, especially Kimberly. She has no idea what this is all about and now the worst part is, she isn't even ready to believe us... Christine, if she doesn't make a decision soon, I'm afraid things will get ugly." Alan confessed.
"She'll make her choice sooner than you expect. She just needs some time to herself... She'll come around, you'll see."
Alan had to tell Roy the same thing just to calm him a bit but the truth was that he doubted it. She was human and had a life before this, so it's going to be difficult to accept this life. That has always been the case with the humans who were mated to werewolves, it takes a long time before they eventually accept their new lives.
His greatest fear now was that Kimberly would end up choosing no one. He held his mate's fingers tighter for some kind of comfort.
"Should I tell you a secret?" Christine asked her mate after realizing that what she said earlier didn't help ease his discomfort.
"If it's going to help the present situation, I guess I would like to hear it."
"I have a feeling Kim is going to accept Roy as her mate. No, I don't feel it, I know for sure."
Alan just stared at her confusedly and with disbelief, hoping she'd further explain what she meant.
"Okay, okay. I'll tell you." she raised her hand in surrender after noticing Alan's expression.
"It's just, she acts like she doesn't care about any of this like she's mad at Roy but... I notice how she looks out the window every time he isn't home like she wanted him to show up any second and... When he shows up, she stares at him so lovingly like she can't get enough of him. There's always this twinkle in her eyes whenever I speak of him.."
Christine had a big smile on her face while she explained, staring dreamingly into nothing like she was reminiscing about her past.
"So... There is nothing to worry about," she concluded after coming out of her trance.
That was a relief to Alan, knowing that Roy had a chance. He deserves it after having to deal with so many things.
"So, the question now is, what are you going to tell Hugh?"
"I think I'll have to tell him the truth." Alan simply replied making Christine smile.
"Thank you," she whispered placing her head on his shoulder.
Kimberly sat by the lakeside crying her eyes out, wondering what her life was slowly turning into. How did she end up here? From being a doctor with a very happy life to losing her fiance, then ending up at a stranger's house. Later discovers that this stranger isn't human and now, she is told her mom isn't human and she is fated to be with not just one man, a werewolf, or whatever they were but two.
