"Archie!" Jughead called, pushing open the door to Fred Andrews house without knocking. "You home?"
"Wait, so why isn't Fred here?" Peter asked. Surely the man wouldn't have left while things were so dire, and certainly not without his son.
"In here, Jug," a voice called back. Peter and Jughead followed the voice into a kitchen wear a muscly redhead stood over a large pot. "Do your guys like everything stew?" He asked without looking up.
"They'll eat anything, Arch," Jughead said, smiling. "Everyone's always famished after street patrol."
"Yeah, I-" Archie finally looked up and saw Peter. "Oh, we have company." He put down the spoon he'd been stirring with, wiped his hands on his pants, and held out a hand to shake. "I'm Archie."
"Peter," Peter said.
"Archie," Jughead said softly. "Peter came looking for your dad."
A cloud of pain passed over Archie's face. "My dad?" He said. "What did you want with my dad?"
"He was a friend of my mums," Peter said slowly, wondering if Fred would have mentioned him to his son. "I lost my parents a long time ago, but Fred showed up a while back to... Invite me to stay for a bit."
"Sorry, Peter, but my dad was killed in a car accident nearly a month ago," Archie said, turning back to his cooking.
"He... He's dead?" Peter asked, shocked.
"Yep."
Peter was speechless. "I'm so sorry," he said quietly. "I-I didn't know."
It all made sense now, though. The respinse to him asking for Fred on the Andrews construction phone, Jughead saying he didn't live around here anymore.
"He was driving home. Stopped to help someone. Bam. Hit and run." Archie shook his head sadly. Jughead placed a hand on his friends shoulder comfortingly.
"I lost my only father figure not too long ago," Peter said softly. "I understand what it's like. I'm so sorry."
Archie turned back to him with a watery smile. "Same here."
"So what are you going to do now?" Jughead asked Peter. "You heading home?"
"No, I can't," Peter said, thinking about the help that this town needed in the while gang department. But he couldn't tell them that was why he was staying. "I, uh, I've already arranged to transfer here for a little while."
"Oh, you're gonna be at Riverdale High?" Archie asked.
"Yep, that's the one," Peter said. "Senior year. Are you guys at school there?"
"We're also seniors there but it's a bit of a struggle managing street patrols and keeping The Spiders in order and going to school," Jughead said with a chuckle. Peter knew just what that was like. Being Spiderman and a student had never been easy.
"Yeah, we're both a tad behind." Archie laughed. "Thank God for the studious girlfriends."
"I swear, we'd never have gotten this far without them," Jughead agreed, smiling.
"Can I, uh, use your bathroom?" Peter asked. Despite actually needing to use it after the insanely long bus trip and beating up a couple of Spiders, these new arrangements warranted a call to happy.

"What, you need a rescue jet?" Happy said when he finally picked up.
"No, Happy, but I need you to do something else for me," Peter said, keeping his voice as low as possible.
"I told you, I'm not helping you do stupid things that will give May a heart attack. I should order you home right now."
"You should, but you won't, because you'll have looked up Riverdale and will know I'm needed," Peter said. He heard Happy's sigh of exasperation and grinned triumphantly.
"There's actually very little information about anything current in that town," Happy said. "Which probably means you are needed. So what do you need from me?"
"I need you to enroll me in Riverdale high school."
There was a pause on the line. "You want to go to school? Isn't part of this whole thing about getting out of school?"
"Happy, it's important! And no, of course not, I love school."
"Mhm, sure." There was some tapping as if on a keyboard and then Happy said, "Are you sure you want to go to this school? There's a whole lot of stuff about murders of students and murders at the school... Peter what are you getting yourself into?"
"It's fine, I've been through worse," Peter said. "The issues aren't with the school now. I think. Please just do it?"
"Fine." Happy sighed. "I'll get you enrolled and send you the details. Have you sorted a place to stay?"
"Uh, sure."
"Peter."
"I'm getting it sorted, okay? Stop worrying!" Peter cried.
"I have to worry when you're doing things behind May's back, because it means she can't. You know, maybe I should just tell her about all of this..."
"Don't you dare! Do you want her to worry?"
"Well, what did you tell your girlfriend?" Happy asked. Peter sighed. He had a point.
"She thinks I'm on something you've sent me on, so if she happens to ask, don't rat me out, okay?"
"Oh so how I'm lying to your aunt and your girlfriend? Great. Thanks, Peter."
"You don't have to lie to anyone unless they directly ask- okay, I have to go. No one will believe I've been in the bathroom this long," Peter said.
"Just lie, Peter. You seem perfectly happy encouraging me to do it."
"Hey, do you think my aunt would like you telling me to lie?"
"Do you think she likes you telling me to lie?"
"She didn't raise you, Happy, I'm not undoing years of her hard work. You are."
"You're ridiculous, Pete." Happy said, chuckling as he hung up. Peter sighed, leaving the bathroom.
He found both Archie and Jughead watching him, seeing his phone.
"The girlfriend called," Peter said, smiling sheepishly. "She's a little annoyed I'm here."
Both Jughead and Archie laughed and Peter pocketed his phone, relieved that they hadn't listened in or asked further questions. He hoped it would all be as easy as this.
