Gavin's life was becoming more and more ironic as everyday went on. The first smack of irony was having an android partner as well. At first it was easy to ignore the android and continue with work, but eventually it was hard. Getting into too many fights got the android's concern, which was met with mixed emotions. On one hand, at least any injuries would be taken care of after much grumbling. On the other hand, he actually had to be in contact and talk to the android.
One of those nights felt different from the other times. He just had a bloody nose and a split lip, nothing too bad. But the white jacketed Connor look-alike talked to him instead of just dabbing a cloth to wipe away the blood and disinfect any cuts.
"You can call me Nines." The android had a different voice than Connor. He had a softer tone, but it had a sarcastic undertone as well. That was curious, but so was the name. Wasn't that basically just his model number? Well, the first number in it at least. But the statement was still said, as a tissue was lightly pressed against his lip. A weird heart leap occured at the touch, which was baffling. Why would that happen? Whatever. He grunted in response, not wanting to open his mouth to respond.
That was quickly forgotten about and moved on over. Though that same heart leaping would happen suddenly when Nines was around, or talking for a long while about a case. He'd brush it off as just nothing. A stupid reoccurring thing that meant nothing.
He was so wrong about that. Nines started doing other things for the detective. Getting him coffee for the morning, breakfast or lunch, and taking care of anything he would forget about. Bills and anything else, but the android never said anything about it. He never expected a thank you or anything else. He would just...do that.
The free coffee and food eventually made Gavin start to warm up to Nines after that. After all, who wouldn't want free food and coffee? That was one iconic thing in Gavin's life. Becoming friends with an android. It was different for one thing, and almost...nice? Gavin liked the few non-work conversations they'd have. That heart skipping would happen more often. Was that safe? Was he really having health problems all of a sudden? Great. Maybe he could ask Nines about it.
"Hey, tincan," the detective used the old nickname that was normally used...it wasn't meant to be harsh now. It was almost fond now. "What causes someone's heart to skip a beat when seeing someone?"
Nines tilted his head, yellow light spinning around on his head. "...isn't that love?" He simply stated, raising a brow. Time seemed to freeze, denial no longer able to be denied.
And that was the other ironic factor in Gavin's life.He fell in love with an android.
"Oh. Well, thanks for being the cause of that." The detective didn't know what else to say besides confess the truth. More surprise shined on the android's face, which was almost...cute. Eventually he was able to reply, a tiny smile spreading on his face.
"It's about time you realized that you felt that way, I've had that same feeling for a while." The android was quick to respond with sarcasm and with a grin. "Minus the heart beating, of course." The detective tried to not laugh, playfully shoving his partner's shoulder. Not hard enough to harm the other, unlike any other time. Nines simply grinned, shooting a wink.
