"Gavin, slow down." The android called after the detective, leaving the other officers to maintain the protest, shrugging off angry hands trying to hold him back. Everything happened so fast, when he looked away for a second. Of course something would happen when his eyes left the other man. "Gavin!"
A quick movement of his arm gripped the clothed elbow, pulling the obviously pissed off Gavin away from his storming off.

"The fuck you want?" He hissed, glaring. The android stared back for a moment, trying to determine what to respond with. Sarcasm or serious? Considering that he had no clue, he had to ask. Though, the sarcastic tone couldn't be helped; it was his programmed voice after all.

"What exactly happened back there?" He demanded in a quieter tone, slowly letting go of the human's elbow. "I can't take you anywhere, can I? Trouble follows you everywhere, doesn't it?" He shot a friendly remark, hoping that'd ease the other a bit. This time it didn't, a tiny huff the only reply for a moment. The android tilted his head, the light turning yellow for a moment before collecting himself.

"Listen, Nines," Gavin finally spoke, avoiding eye contact, "sometimes an ignorant protest leader needs a good punch."

"...you hate androids too." Nines said without even thinking it over, words going out faster than his programming could stop himself from saying something without thinking it carefully.

Gavin made eyecontact again, a brow shooting up at the statement. A half smile spread on his face, chuckling with a shake of his head. "People change, asshole. It's a part of being a human."

"I thought you'd be too stubborn for such an occurrence." Nines relaxed, relieved to see the sarcastic and asshole detective he normally put up with. "But should I be flattered about that?" A teasing grin spread on the android's face, almost a smirk. Gavin narrowed his eyes, trying to figure out what was being implied. He crossed his arms, shaking his head.

"The fuck you're on about, Tinman?" He asked, looking at Nines with the adorably confused look in his eyes. But no other feature would reveal that he had no clue about what the android was hinting at, which just made that look more adorable. It was so out of character in comparison to his cocky attitude, so that was what made it cute. Attraction played no role in that at all.

"I'm an android, so am I the reason you're stopped your strong dislike for us?" Nines didn't want to keep teasing Gavin, since it was a genuine question. He did feel curious about if he was the cause behind this surprising statement. A scoff was a response for a minute before Gavin spoke, his voice a lot quieter now.

"Maybe, but don't let that go to your ego." He looked around, this time his fingers curling around Nine's elbow. "C'mon, let's get out of throwing rock distance. Wouldn't want your shiny ass to get scratched now." He gave a small tug, head tilted to a place away from the crowd. Nines raised a brow, looking at the fingers on his arm. They were warm, he could feel that through the fabric of his jacket and shirt. It felt...nice.

"Wouldn't want you need patched up again either," he shot back in a murmur, letting the human tug him away. A snort sounded out from the man in front of him. Nines couldn't help but smile at it. It was always nice to make the detective laugh with the comebacks he's shot back since day one. It felt like a compliment, or the closest he'd get to one from Gavin Reed.

"You don't always need to patch me up, tincan. I'm a big boy, I can take care of myself." Gavin murmured with a smile shot, head turned to show it off to the android. It was hard to hold back a wider smile, one that wasn't of amusement. He gave a small shrug in response, figuring that would say it all. It did, the man's eyes returning to where he was walking. Once a safe distance away, the detective let go to cross his arms, observing the scene from a distance. It was all starting to calm down, surprisingly.

"What provoked you to punch the man, exactly? Self defense or a bad day?" Nines asked, eyes on the disbanding crowd. His question was met by silence for a moment, which he assumed was because the other was thinking of a witty response. After a while, a small sigh of defeat slipped from Gavin. So an answer without a sarcastic undertone...?

"Technically self defense, I guess." Gavin's tone was flat. As if he was hiding the full truth. Nines looked at him, brows furrowed and light yellow. The human looked at the android standing next to him, furrowing his brows in response to the look he was being given. "What? You wanted an answer."

"You had no emotion in your tone. You're hiding something." Nines simply said, finding no reason to sugarcoat the observation. "Did he threaten you?" A slight edge hit his tone, fists clenching unknowingly. But his question seemed to cause an unexpected reaction.

"The threat was to you! Fuckin' asshole wouldn't stop trying to get you to interact with him so he could stab ya!" The detective snapped, but not a snap of anger. It...was protective. Angry but directed at someone else. He dug around in his pocket to show the pocket knife that was most likely the threatening device behind the threats.

Nines was silent, processing what Gavin's body language and tone was saying. This was new. This wasn't just Gavin being himself, this was a new side of him. But it felt so alarming that no ideas came to mind about why he was so quick to defend and not simply warn either the man to knock it off, or point the man out to Nines. He couldn't stay silent forever though. That'd raise alarm considering the subject.

"Why?"

It was so simple yet complex. The question that filled his mind, a curious head tilt as he stared at Gavin. As if gazing at his eyes or body language would reveal the answer faster than the answer to the question would. Recognizable reactions occured; a paused breath, hands slipping away into jean pockets, lip being bitten...but it felt so unfamiliar at the same time. Nines waited for the answers, not sure what to expect. Gavin's eyes danced from the android next to him to their surroundings, then back again.

Hands gripped the collar of Nines' jacket, pulling him slightly down. Many different scenarios played through the android's head but none of them came close to the actual response. Warm lips covered his own, pressed hard and fast. If Nines' had a heartrate, it'd be racing just like Gavin's was. For the last second the lips covered his, the android reciprocated the kiss. But it probably wasn't noticed by the other, fingers still held to the jacket. But he wasn't as close now. His heart was racing, as if a race horse possessed his heart rate. No words could fall from Nines at that moment.

"That's why." Gavin finally spoke, his voice barely a whisper. "Because you had to go and capture my heart, you...you lovable hunk of metal." An obviously flustered tone filled the other's voice. As if recharged, Nines found a reaction to give, though it wasn't words either. He leaned down to lightly kiss Gavin's lips again, a pause before white sleeved arms wrapped around the human, his warm body heat feeling perfect at that moment.

Nines wasn't sure what love would feel like for him. Was it felt this entire time and he didn't know? Most likely. But how did he not notice Gavin feeling it? Those questions didn't need answered. He was the first to pull back, mostly because he could tell when Gavin was running out of air. Even in moments filled with unexpectedness and wonder, the safety and comfortablness of Gavin was a priority. Maybe Gavin was simply just always a priority.

"'Loveable hunk of metal'? What happened to your better nicknames?" Nines finally whispered, Gavin's laugh sounding like if sugar was a sound. The human grinned, arms slipping around Nines' neck, obviously not about to let this moment go yet. "Should I call you 'loveable organs' then?"

"Shuddup," Gavin looked happy. Sounded happy too, cheeks flushed pink. This was a new side of him entirely. Soft, loving...and so much more. Yet his same smartass act was sure to remain, as would the android's. It was such an established part of their lives and relationship. "I couldn't think of anything, since I don't have a database to every word in the world." There it was, the fond teasing. Nines grinned, a small laugh slipping out.

"You're impossible, Gavin Reed."

"Aw, you're such a sweettalker, Nines Reed."
