many kids have imaginary friends. little do we know, those "imaginary friends" are not only real they are actually demons undergoing a rehabilitation program to cleanse their sins and get into heaven
_
You weren't like other kids. While all your friends have forgotten about their imaginary friends, can't remember what they look like, or straight up didn't have them; your best friend was still imaginary.
You found it pretty pathetic on how much a being that you created meant so much to you. However, you felt something different about him. He seemed to arrive and leave on his own. His personality was so real. You wondered if that was the reason he stayed for so long.
You were trying to fall asleep when Kisumi appeared.
"Hey," you whispered. He smiled at you.
"Trouble falling asleep?" he asked. You nodded. He sat next to your bed, stroking your hair.
"Kisumi?" you questioned. He hummed in response. "When will you leave for good? Just wondering," you said. You always asked him but he always waved it off in a joking manner. However, this time, he seemed uncomfortable.
"Maybe.. soon?" he answered, uncertain himself. "Sooner than I thought," You jumped out of bed.
"What? Really?" you asked, not expecting that at all. He gave you a small smile.
"Yeah. Aren't you glad though? I won't be burdening you anymore. I know that I've made your life harder," Kisumi said, his voice tight. "It just took me a long time," he added under his breath.
"What are you talking about? You aren't any trouble," you assured. "And.. what do you mean a long time?"
"Ah, I guess I'll tell you now," he started. You nodded. "Well, I'm a demon. If you're a demon and want to get into heaven, you can become an imaginary friend to cleanse your sins," he explained briefly.
"Ok, and?" you asked. You always knew he was different but was slightly intrigued by the fact that imaginary friends are dead.
"You aren't freaked out I'm a demon?" Kisumi gawked, looking confused.
You shook your head. "You're just you, Kisumi," you said. He looked away from you, his ears turning red. You held back a laugh.
"Anyway, you know how most kids forget their imaginary friends? Yeah, I guess only mild sins are allowed here," he joked. "I guess I was a horrible human being,"
"Do you not remember your life?" you asked. He shook his head. You wanted to know all about his time but now was sad that he couldn't tell his stories. "So," you started, plopping back into bed. "You're going to heaven soon?" you clarified. "I'll miss you,"
"I'll miss you too, (Y/N)," he choked. You looked at him. He was tearing up. "I think I understand why we should leave when the kid is young," You laughed, waving him off.
"Good night, Kisumi," you said. He smiled, giving you a smooch on the forehead. "I'll see you tomorrow?"
He gave you a small not then got up to start walking away. Before he left, he gave you this look. You've never seen it before.
You woke up the next day and never saw him again. But you'd always remember him. Kisumi Shigino.
