u are the grim reaper. recently, you've been forced to work overtime, as people seem to be constantly dying left and right. some have stab wounds, others were poisoned, some were even suffocated, but all died before their time. one day while reaping the soul of one of the bodies, however, you finally get to meet the culprit. an immortal serial killer and they've been trying to get your attention for years.
_
"Another weird death.." you said as you arrived at the crime scene. You've seen millions of deaths but lately, all the newcomers have been taken away from the world too early. It wasn't normal.
"A- Am I dead?" the spirit of the newly murdered stammered. You solemnly nodded. They burst into tears. You offered a hug and they accepted.
You kneeled on the ground, taking in their wails and cries. You looked around, trying to see if the murderer was around still. You felt a male stare at the back of your head. You couldn't turn around because of the person on your shoulders but you knew he was there. Something about the creepy feeling in your spine made you certain that he was the one causing all the premature deaths.
Your blood started to boil. Even though your job depended on people dying, something about a person taking other people's lives made you angry.
"Let's go to the afterlife," you said softly, standing up. They stared at you, eyes glistening. After a few seconds, they nodded, finally accepting their future. You gave them a kiss on their hand, closed your eyes, took a deep breath, and snapped your fingers.
When you opened your eyes, the spirit was gone. You could finally find the person responsible for the influx of deaths. Emergency personnel was starting to arrive at the scene, you were running out of time.
You headed to the alley, surprisingly finding him sitting at the end.
"You've finally noticed me," his voice said. It was a mixture of happiness and pain.
"What?" you demanded.
"I'm in love with you, (Y/N). I know everything about you. I did all this.. to see you. The few minutes I get in return of taking a life.. it's thrilling," he said, starting to laugh. "Remember my name, Kenma. I'll be seeing you much more,"
You had so much to say but heard police arriving behind you. Without your say, you instantly disappeared. You found yourself back in the world of the afterlife, your head swarming. You've found the culprit of your problems.
A few seconds passed of you taking everything in when you got another notification of a death. It was in the same area as before. You were ready to scream at.. Kenma.. as you were sent to the alley.
As expected, you saw dozens of police bodies. Kenma was sitting on top of them, in a pile. You grabbed the collar of his shirt, stained with blood.
"What is your problem?" you growled. "You find joy in this? Do you think I like death? That I'll love you back? Let me get this into your head, Kenma, I despise you!" you were now screaming at him, tears rolling down your face. You couldn't believe his body count just went up more. You wanted him to stop.
Kenma was just smiling and smiling. You wanted to slap him. "Do I look like the person to care? You'll love me back someday. I'll just take more bodies," he assured, wiping the blood off this knife. He was feeling so confident in himself.
"How dare you? You puny humans have a life span of not even twelve decades. I've lived longer than your lifeline. I would never fall in love with a baby like you," you threatened.
"Oh? Oh really? Hate to break it to you, but I've been alive since, hm, you've existed as well," he said, still smiling. You were furious at the fact that you were so bothered by him but he was just treating you like the child. You were the child?
"What do you mean? That's impossible," you scoffed, letting go of him.
"(Y/N), murders have happened since the beginning of time. Who has been doing them?" he asked. You didn't have an answer. "I've love you for so long.. (Y/N). It's just that lately, I've had enough,"
"What are you getting at," you snapped. Kenma was a smart person. He wanted something.
"Simple," he started, he touched your cheek. You were too afraid to move away. "Go on a date with me. One date. You'll fall for me," he explained.
"No," you shut him down instantly.
"I didn't finish," he said harshly. "If you take up on my offer I'll stop murdering. For good. Since you've taken the chance to notice me, what's the need to kill?" he added. Your eyes widened while he smirked. He knew you ethically couldn't refuse him.
"A- Alright," you managed to say, frozen in place. Kenma leaned in closer to you, his breath mixing with yours. You couldn't look into his eyes any longer and started to stare at the river of blood flowing through the cracks in the floor.
"I'll see you tomorrow then, (Y/N)," he whispered. He backed up, jumping off his pile of victims. "Well, I'll be off then," he said, walking away. "And please-" he turned around one last time. "-try for my sake," he added with a smile.
You stood there, face red. As you collected each policemen's spirits, you couldn't believe you got outsmarted by an immortal murderer.
You had to find a way to stop him.
end.
