The world was ending. It didn't have to be said, everyone knew it.
The Thirteenth Plantation was sent on its last mission. You've never felt fear but right before getting into your FRANXX was when you felt overwhelming panic. You stood in front of the door, unable to move. The hugeness of the FRANXX suddenly scared you. You doubt your strength to operate it.
You blinked, suddenly seeing your partner, Zorome, in front of you. "You alright?" he asked uneasily. Of course. You weren't the only one on the team. Right now was the worse time to be nervous.
You nodded, following the brunette inside the FRANXX. You reached your hand out to him and he held you for a second. You instantly felt better.
You took deep breaths as you got into position. A few minutes later, the machine was powered up and everyone was waiting for instructions from Nana.
"Everyone, let's do this!" Ichigo's voice rang throughout the room.
"If any of you die, there's going to be problems," Hiro added, giving everyone motivation.
You couldn't listen as your head was swimming with thoughts. You tried to calm down, as having a foggy brain would affect the performance of the FRANX. It was dangerous to be thinking too much, as it could put your life and Zorome's in jeopardy.
The gates opened and Nana's instructions displayed on the screen. Everyone flew out, hunting the nearby kalaxosaurs. The dangerous part about the mission was the fact that humans were running out of magma energy. Being so dependent on it, suddenly not having it was basically the end of civilization.
The only thing left to do was just defend frim the kalaxosaurs before the inevitable death. With the FRANXX's energy already low, the machines were predicted to break down in battle.
"Over there!" Ikuno spotted, pointing out the kalaxosaur that was peaking out of the ground. Everyone glided in formation, glad that is was a common creature instead of the huge string ones.
"It's just one. We got this!" Kokoro piped up. You bit your lip, feeling uneasy as you suddenly got chills. That caused the FRANXX to stumble and you were now behind.
"(Y/N)! Are you sure you're okay?" Zorome asked, pausing to talk to you.
"I'm sorry," you apologized getting yourself together and following behind everyone.
As Chlorophytum approached the lump of the creature, you noticed cracks forming on the soil.
"Watch out! There's more!" you yelled. However, you were a second too late. Ikuno and Futoshi were immediately swallowed. With the FRANXX not being in good shape, they were gone. The connection to their FRANXX flashed away.
Everyone seemed to pause while the floor was splitting apart and hundreds of kalaxosaurs spewed out. A deathly silence filled the air. You felt like you couldn't breathe. Why did you hesitate? You could have possibly saved them.
Kokoro's scream awakened everyone to reality. Crys of revenge and horror echoed through everyone's FRANXX as kalxosaurs were being blindly murdered. To everyone's horror, the more creatures were killed, the more came from the floor.
"Strelizia! Let's go inside together!" Ichigo ordered. She was aware that it was a death sentence but continued.
"Of course!" Zero Two replied, not hesitating to jump in with her. You and Genista were above, dealing with wave after wave of kalaosaurs. It killed you to hear the last screams of your captain, Zero Two, Hiro, and Goro before their connections went away.
You were sobbing, unsure of what to do. Kokoro and Futoshi were starting to cut in and out of the voice channel due to the FRANXX's running out of power. After a few minutes, everything went dark. Nothing was functional anymore.
You were flung out of position and slammed into the door as the FRANXX was being tossed around by the kalaxosaurs. There was pain all over your body, but you couldn't feel anything. You looked around, rushing to Zorome.
"You're bleeding," you muttered, pointing out the gnarly gash on his forehead.
"You are too," he countered, pointed out the bruises on your arms. You both looked at each other, bursting out laughing.
It was a violent situation but all you could hear or see was Zorome. Despite the loud noises, fear, and unavoidable death, you were quite happy. You felt like you've done so much in this life. It was a parasite's job to operate a FRANXX until the end. You soon started crying.
"(Y/N)?" Zorome asked, brushing your hair out of your face.
"What was that word that Zero Two said she felt towards Hiro?" you asked softly. "Love? I love you Zorome," you said.
"I can't believe you say this now," he teased, starting to tear up. "I love you too," He leaned towards you, getting closer and closer.
A kalaxosaur's teeth sunk into the FRANXX's skull and you both were now exposed to the elements. In seconds, you both would be dead, and in minutes, so would the rest of civilization.
As the kalaxosaurs got closer and closer, Zorome connected your lips. You felt so many emotions before everyone went quiet and still.
